saying they increased the offering size makes normal people think the company sold new shares that didn't exist previously. all it means is they got more founders or early investors to sell their shares for the IPO. this is misleading to think that caused the price to tank

Wow do you guys need better editors... Even kids taking basic audio and video production in high school knows to have the background loops way lower than the voice overs, good job keeping them at the same level!

@@JamesCordeiro I didn’t double up on Facebook, but I have made good money in the past on Facebook call options.

I would say NASDAQ is partly to blame, but that guy has to shoulder a big part of it. By buying that huge position on margin, he overexposed his account. It seems he never considered the possible downside.

I don't think the retail investors would "lose trust" because of the human emotion named greed. When there's another hot stock or IPO, they will be back in droves.

It sounds to me that this is much less the fault of facebook, and much more the fault of NASDAQ. It was the NASDAQ software glitch and poor investment decisions that caused this guy's problem, not Facebook. :/

The Asian dude was trading on margin. Don't blame Facebook for your margin call man. Blame yourself and your broker.

Final comment, why would that individual investor put a margin call on FB? The only reason I can think of is that he got greedy. His account clearly did not have enough to buy 3400 shares. By saying that he "didn't have big positions", he clearly did not understand how margin works.

It's not hindsight its common sense. Before investing you should at least understand how a company makes money. That's why all the noise made about FB IPO never made sense to me.

A stop loss would not have helped because of how fast the stock had sold off from its high of $45 on opening day.

lol does the WSJ do this for every investor that loses money on the stock market? they could just shorten the video down to a few seconds with the title 'bad investment' and thats it

The NASDAQ issue sucks.. but if you're an amateur investor with an open order to purchase shares before open of an IPO (with or without the nasdaq issue).. and on top of that, on margin!? Then you get what you deserve. If you look at 6:39, you'll see the guy had plenty of time to get out before losing all his money. He didn't check his account on Monday, because he was "confident" that FB was going up. I feel bad that he lost all his money, but he deserved it for being naive. Sorry dude.
