If you are wanting to make a move to the Idaho area and are looking for some guidance and someone who can put a plan together based off your goals, timing and navigating a relocation, then I want you to do the following. Step 1. Start by first going to www.myboisehousesearch.com and start looking at all the homes for sale in our area. Step 2. We will reach out to you to schedule a time to meet in person or over the phone or zoom to see how we may be able to help get your plan put together. Step 3. Once we have your plan in place, then you can start packing and start making your way to Idaho.

Boise doesn't feel like Idaho any more, it's turning into a mini Cali. I know many people who have decided to get out and move somewhere more like Boise used to be. Mostly people who want to buy a home, Boise isnt much cheaper than California at this point but the wages are still way behind the surrounding states.

Moving to a new city or state often teaches us more about ourselves and our own priorities than it does about the place itself. What we think we value may not always be what we value most. Sometimes, because something is lacking in our lives, we jump to the place that provides what is lacking only to discover that we had grossly overestimated its importance to us in relation to the big picture.
@OtisFlint
@OtisFlint Жыл бұрын
People do exactly this in relationships also. They focus on one missing thing and trade an otherwise great situation for something that's lacking 3 other things and realize they greatly overvalued the thing they thought they needed.

@@OtisFlint As they say, "You don't know what you got 'til it's gone." They also say, "You can't get everything you want." I knew a rich, powerful head of a company that I worked for. I don't know what was in his soul, but he was not what anyone would call "nice." Anyway, he had a mansion. His six-year-old kid went flying off the second floor landing and ended up unconscious in the hospital. Two days later, his girlfriend's body was found hanging naked from an outdoor bedroom balcony. The kid died a day or two after that. You can have everything, but you usually won't have it for long.

If you're coming from Cali, definitely consider not moving here. You're gonna pay Cali prices without Cali ammenities. (you know what I'm talking about) This state is about to crash hard and most people out here are oblivious to it. Not their fault, they don't know the long term effects of a massive influx (it's their first time) but yeah, consider going more East. To give you an idea, a lot of realtors in Idaho are from Cali, so that should give you an idea of how things are gonna shake out here.

I can attest to this from first hand experience. I lived 6 minutes from the beach in SD before moving to Meridian Idaho in 2020. I knew pay would be less but thought price of living would be relative. I didn’t go there with bags of money buying up houses like they all seem to think 🙄 I simply rented a place and got a job like any normal person. It wasn’t long before I realized I could not sustain my expenses with what I could make there. I was shocked to see how the prices for groceries gas and other things were the same and sometimes higher than in California! I was drowning in debt after only a year trying to subsidize my income. We left.

I lived in San Diego, off base housing and had a 2br townhouse for $1860/mo...it's getting pretty close to that here and rising. So think wisely. RENT IS NOT CHEAP AT ALL!! Found out an airman had bought a house for $100k a couple yrs ago...sold his house this year for $400k and moved back on base. EVERYTHING is getting expensive. If they moved here in 2020, or shortly before, OF COURSE they couldn't make friends and socialize. It was 2020! Anyway, move around if you can while you're young. I grew up in Colorado and I really missed the mountains and at the time couldn’t afford to move back to Colorado. I moved to Boise didn’t know anyone and it was still the best thing I ever did for myself. I lived there for eight years and would love to go back sometime. It’s just too expensive to go back there now. Although I’m back in Colorado and housing is exorbitantly outrageous here. I didn’t make that many friends while I lived in Boise but I didn’t need many and I loved living there I loved the mountains I loved all the places I went to visit I loved my house it was just the most awesome eight years of my life. I would love to move back to Boise. Unfortunately housing is so expensive there now it’s not possible.

I moved there in September of 2020. I’m a single mom with a young son and we were both really struggling in California during the shut down. I was stuck working at home and my son was struggling trying to do Zoom and no friends while everything shut down. Unlike the general misconception about Californians, I’m NOT a democrat with left leaning ideologies and I did NOT show up with bags of gold from selling my huge mansion is Californian🙄 We ended up in Meridian near Boise. At first we were Soo excited! But over time I was having the WORST time keeping us financially afloat. I worked at 3 different jobs while I was there. First two were so bad I left after 4-5 wks which I’ve never done before in my life! I stayed at the last job until I moved. (We just left two months ago to AZ)Those 3 jobs were in my experience pretty much the worst jobs I’ve ever had!!! They pay poorly and the managers were rude and very unprofessional. It’s a right to work state which apparently equates to - love it or leave it. No benefits, no HR if things aren’t ethical, and stingy pay in return for your undying faithful devotion to them. It’s insane, and I’m a very hard worker so that says a lot! I come from a career field that typically makes pretty decent money, but NOT in Idaho. Along with the poor wages, the price of living was literally almost as high and higher on some things! I was drowning in bills and subsidizing with credit. The last job I had was considered one of the best and I knew I really wasn’t going up from there. I started realizing I didn’t actually LOVE Idaho enough to struggle that hard. I met some very nice people who we will always keep in touch with, but in general idahoans are very different. Kind of guarded and to themselves.. many have never even traveled to another state! They have no concept of life outside of idaho. Also, it seemed the people I worked with had nothing better in life to do but constantly back bite everyone. As a single mom it’s hard because you really can’t just go out like a single person but you don’t have a partner to help go places like camping etc like some families do there. And in general there’s not all that much to do besides camp, fish, hike or horse back ride. It all sounded great in theory but the reality of it wasn’t as exciting. My biggest warning to anyone moving there is (A) Be prepared to be automatically HATED if you’re from California -no matter what your actual situation is, and (B) Better have a financial back up plan or be very prepared to live a low budget life style. People in Idaho still pay like it’s 25 years ago and expect you to work like a dog and like it. (C) Most employers are extremely stingy and set in their ways. The money coming in now is a fairly new experience to them and they hoard it like Scrooge McDuck! They love the money that’s coming into this area, but abhor the people that bring it. (D) It’s very dreary and dark for 5-6 months of the year and hard to mix and mingle when it’s so cold. Maybe if you’re a skier with lots of friends, but most people don’t do that every single day anyway. It’s the day to day life that counts and for me it felt very lonely. I joined a church and tried to do things here and there, but it’s hard as an adult to create those deep connections. Also, It’s very very dry, so prepare for bloody noses and crocodile skin. And shopping- they’ve got one mall in Boise that’s decent. But around town it’s Albertsons or Fred Myers for everything, and repeat of the basic chain stores every few miles. It leaves a lot to be desired, but coming from California in San Diego I knew not to compare it. Yes it’s beautiful in the Spring & Fall and like anywhere has some perks, but over all -I just didn’t love it enough to stay. And most people there, don’t want you there either! The only ones inviting you to move there are Realistate agents! The actual “Native Idahoans” as they love to refer to themselves as, don’t want change and they definitely don’t want you there! It’s all over town with rude bumper stickers, Facebook groups, people making small talk.. I’ve heard it all. So yeah- I didn’t find it to be very welcoming in general. You’ve been warned ;) It’s definitely not the Hallmark story living you might be hoping for. If you read this entire rant- God bless you 😆

I would never give Boise any consideration, just because of one of their main reasons... how dry and flat it is. Northern Idaho can be beautiful with the rivers and mountains, but it's STILL dry, and VERY cold and snowy. But in the treasure Valley, once you go beyond the reach of a sprinkler system, then it's just barren, brown, crispy, awfulness. I'm perfectly satisfied here where I am in Central Missouri, shade trees, hills, green grass, and 40 inches of rain per year. And I have MORE freedom than even northern Idaho where all those nutcase preppers seem to congregate. Boundary county, Idaho in ZONED. about 3/4 of the 114 counties in Missouri have no zoning whatsoever, which means you can do exactly what you want with your land, whenever you want... without any permit (within reason, of course) Urban counties won't be this way... but most of the rural ones are.

I’ve come to notice that contrary to your belief, even with time and genuine effort, not all who are social conservative, Independent, Republican, or even apolitical have come to fall for the lie that moving to Idaho was for their betterment. Unfortunately, those voices are often downplayed or ignored and this is an issue not just in Idaho. It’s everywhere. There are problems everywhere. There are rude hypocritical natives everywhere. There are busybodies everywhere. In the end, you move or live to what works for you and your individual family and if you have kids that live to become adults and they still don’t like living where you do, I’m in full support for them finding what ethical living environment, be it city or country, that’s fine for them! Im not passionate about Idaho or any state in America, and I was born in Texas on an army base. My dream present earthly home of choice is living is in Northern France. It has everything I am passionate and love though, just as with America, Ukraine, Canada, the UK, it’s run by a socialist tyrant which breaks my heart for my adopted people to endure such a tyrant. Yet, I still love and prefer the rich centuries of history, music, culture, knowledge of France - yet I try to live in peace with all. In any case, find what living area works best for you.

Sure I can relate to that alone feeling. I’m in northern california and when I agreed with just one thing that the last president did I became an outcast from everything like my golf group to my neighbors. The hate I revived was over the top . I couldn’t believe I wasn’t allowed to have a opinion. I decided I’m out of this lunatic woke state of failed leftist policies. I went to North Idaho just before the election and upon arrival the first thing I noticed were Trump and american flags in almost every front yard. If I put a Trump flag in my yard in california someone would likely damage my home. First thing I noticed about the folks in northern idaho was they didn’t have green, purple or orange hair with a million studs in there face and instead were folks of faith values and morals. To me it’s what I consider normal. I seemed to fit right in and i’m having a home built there right now. Can’t wait!

So happy for you. Relocated from Southern California to Ada County Idaho. Was shocked at the commonplace appearance of unicorn hair colors, tattoos, and vaping (especially because many of the people participating are 40++ years of age). Was not used to that in the beautiful coastal suburbs I relocated from. Not many Trump flags here. Definitely would be a poor idea to hoist a Trump flag on one's home, or place such a bumper sticker on one's vehicle in this area. Lots of hot heads in the area with poor manners, myopia, and short fuses. Boise people seem the nicest in Ada County. Less than 50% of the population in the area is native to Idsho. So many are primarily from Northern California, Oregon, and Washington, and some are from Las Vegas and Utah as well. Plenty of the out-of-state people are rough, and many seem to have a large sense of entitlement and disgruntled and selfish attitudes. Sounds like you found a jewel up north. All the best!

We had property in Sandpoint in 1978 and moved to the Rathdrum in northern Idaho in 1990. We lived in a rural area in Calif and we wanted the same in Idaho. We moved in 1990 because my husband got a job here. I think the biggest mistake people make before moving up here is not having a job. Or at least looking at the job market and doing a lot of research about the area before you make that move. Like you said, come up and visit and look around during different seasons as well. The other thing is you have to give it time. We were fortunate in that we have five children. Meeting other people is easy when you have children, as you obviously meet other parents. Same as meeting people through church and and work ...it's easy to fit in. I think moving at retirement age to any place is not a good idea unless you have family or friends already in the area.

But back to the lady you described in the story feeling lonely, Don't worry lady it does get better. Coming from moving experience .

There are no videos on KZbin that really talk about Idaho's 6.5% income tax, I currently live in WA so no state tax and was thinking of moving to Idaho for ideological reasons but the state income tax would eat some $4000 of my annual income, if I understand it correctly, and the property tax comapred to WA is not enough of a reduction to cover the difference. I don't personally spend much money, I do not buy new cars and really mostly just save/invest money I don't hire people to do work I mostly do everything myself so I just don't gain from the lower sales tax either and since WA has no sales tax on grocery items I would probably actually pay more sales tax in Idaho since most of my expenses are just groceries. Anyway, I was thinking for years to buy a house and move to Idaho but just see that financially for me I think that won't work out. Perhaps I should look in to Nevada instead.

The other-worldy deep blue sky is ugly, the intense sunlight is painful, the lack of graffiti is disappointing, the wild-west themed summer days are lousy, all the tons of rivers and streams are cold and full of gross, slimy fish, the waterfalls are so loud it should be illegal. Good story. Idaho isn't for everybody. I picked up on one thing in particular you said about people having trouble meeting people. And almost the next thing you talk about is hooking them up with others like them. There in lies the problem. It starts at the realtor and continues. I have run into this at work. I am 70 year old native Idahoan who tried to buy a house and got snookered out of it by a California buyer and realtor. They didn't want a local living in a neighborhood of Californians. We have lived here, in Boundary County, Idaho, on 10 acres, for close to 17 years. We live close to Ruby Ridge, if that gives some of you any idea of the mentalities that actually still exist up here! Big mistake we made, as we had no idea back then when we bought this place! Most of the people we have met, including all our neighbors, have always been very difficult, snooty, rude, mean, nasty, and just very condescending. The locals HATE out-of-state people coming here! Even the people who have moved here from other states ende up not being very nice! Most of the local businesses in the small town we live near are also not very nice to deal with. Some of that has to do with several very clannish, larger, Religious groups that live up here! To be able to survive the attitudes here, we make the long drives down to Sandpoint to do all of our business and grocery shopping. Naples, Bonners Ferry, and Moyie Springs are full of very snotty, stuck-up folks! Luckily for us, we were/are self employed! So we never took any jobs away from any locals, which was a big concern for our neighbors. We also never had any kids, so we did not burden their schools. We have finally learned to live without any social interactions up here, not even a friendly wave. We do get flipped the bird at least on a weekly basis, and that has gone on since day one! Oh, and yes, we did come from California all those 16+ years ago. All the neighbors never got over that, even though we were/are Conservatives. (Amazing how there are so many hidden liberals up here!) Anyway, all the neighbors hated us back then, and they still all hate us now! Oh, and the Property Taxes have gotten to the point of INSANE up here this past year, because of total Government GREED! So we are probably going to finally put this place up for sale and hopefully get OUT of very unfriendly Idaho come next Spring!

After seeing that I am neither woke nor ultra conservative and being in 6+ states I can tell you that in the end, it is up to you! It’s like college, yes, you’ll be okay wherever you go if it’s a stable school, but you may not LOVE IT if you don’t LOVE and have passion for the place you’ll spend 4 years of your life at. Same with work. And same with where you end up settling. Boise has its pros and cons. I would recommend visiting the place and talking to multiple people before you settle. Personally I do not see the charm. But it is a quiet and calm city that has a small town vibe with a big city feel. People are very proud. And very Mormon. There is a culture there. So if you’re not use to it, that’s something to strongly consider or you may dislike your life there. Boise isn’t for everyone and everyone isn’t for Boise. It’s like Portland or Denver. They have their vibes too. I’m still searching for mine. Best of luck.

I just really like quiet places in nature where I can be alone, eating healthy, and working out. I plan on doing a side business thing online where I can make a bit more money, and if I can get 1000 dollars per month doing that, I plan on moving to a country where that money can get me middle class status, but anyway, even if I do go to Idaho, I am just going to mind my own business and try not to change the state. Personally I want to go to a more pure and "classic" style of place, as I do want to marry a girl that was raised with the kinds of values those places provide someday... I think a lot of Californians moving to Idaho, picked it because they have similar intentions like me, but maybe that's not how it is in reality....

Yes, find out if the place you're going to is plagued with any weather you don't want such as wind, tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, humidity, heat or cold etc!)& try to duplicate what you like/need with wherever one is moving. Sure, you love helping people move to Idaho and the over inflated housing cost is making YOU rich. But what about the locals? What about most of the out-of-staters ruining our beautiful Idaho with their politics? What about local young adults being able to afford housing? All the out of state money helps only 1 group of people, realtors. Realtors have driven the costs up and continue to get paid a percentage of the sale price. It's just WRONG. money is NOT the most important thing. The California millionaires ruined Sun Valley long ago. Then the billionaires pushed the millionaires out of Sun Valley, and the millionaires pushed the locals out of McCall. Today a similar process is under way in Boise. It is disgusting.

I moved from Idaho to Salem, Oregon in 1989 and then moved to Central California the next year 1990. I spent the next 29 years trying to get out of California. I finally moved back to Lewiston, Idaho in Fall 2019. Are there problems in Idaho? The answer is yes. I love it here because I am not being dictated to by some clown in the state capital like certain other states. Do I have to drive to get certain things? Yes. Most of the time I can get somewhere fairly quick. People here are friendly once the find out you are not trying to change their way of life. My family and I thinking of moving to Idaho from Houston. We have lived in the northeast for about 8 years and came back to Houston in 2017. Houston is not the city we want to live permanently. It is too hot, too much traffic, no outdoor recreation. We thought about Washington because we've been there before and fell in love with the beauty of the moutains, and all the natural scenery. However we are not too thrilled with their liberal views. We want to live in the country or a small town. We want to get away from the big cities. We are thinking of visiting in the fall to get an idea of the state.

I'm already regretting it a bit, though its largely a mixture of hating the house I ended up picking, as well as the odd behavior of Idahoans which involve packing as many cars on their lawn as possible and leaving them to rust. Mix that with a higher than average mix of ugly and fat people, as well as a lack of good infrastructure, it can be quite the downer if you come from more developed and higher standard locations. Then again, I'm in the northern part where the houses cost too much and the quality of the properties leave a lot to be desired at this point in time, I'm sure it will upgrade in the future. I'm willing to sit it out for a few years before potentially relocating. The reason for going to Idaho in the first place is in large part political, otherwise I probably would have went Washington side. That state, like the rest of the West Coast is going in a bad direction over all. Bad people in charge.

@@chuckbrooks7489 Yup. I acknowledge Idaho is developing and that it will take time and effort. The main driver for the regret I do feel is the house I ended up with. When moving here, you have to compromise quite a bit as the houses are either very dated (not in the good way), or new track home styled houses. Mix that with limited supply and well beggers can't be choosers. Not living in a space you are comfortable in will naturally breed a bit of discontent.
