@@livinginidaho He didn't say they left Cali because of politics and for those who didn't have politics in mind when deciding to leave many still try to bring Cali with them. True not everyone is leaving Cali because of politics but there are many people who are unable to make the connection between their complaints of cali which made them want to leave and the politicies that were involved in those complaints. It's very interesting observing this in people. I've seen Denver change and get worse because of it.

Sorry to say but Idahoans absolutely need some advice. Im a California transplant. The majority of Californias flaws are not infrastructure related, they arent solely economical (CAs economy is booming in comparison), taxes are higher but so are incomes and jobs are far easier to find. The flaws are politically motivated. Unless you are a super woke progressive, you will find your opportunities limited in CA. People from Idaho are very biased and opinionated about a state they have never seen, the people from a state they have never met, and generally have a superiority complex towards all Californians. All of their information is driven by KZbin and fear. You dont want Californians here, you want to stop the march towards growth? Too late Idaho, the growth was initiated by all the development being done and there is no stopping the momentum (a body in motion…). You dont want Californians?? The alternative is gaining tons of illegals as treasure valley is 25 minutes from the Oregon border, so dont be surprised when your super cheap way of living you want to protect is invaded and these developments are filled by illegals when the builders have no other way to sell their developments and because you all want to fight that momentum. They will subsidize these houses to avoid taking massive losses and they will be given to illegals for free. Dont believe me?? Check out NY and their new multimillion dollar high rises filled with President Brandons finest. The thought process here is so myopic. You are so focused on the immediate, you don’t think the future is coming. You want the In N Out, the Top Golf etc, you just dont want people who support and allow for that growth to come here? Makes perfect sense. I bought my Idaho house from this guy and would love to have a real, honest conversation about the things people from California should consider before making the move, none of which are on this list.

Great vid. Piece of advise in regard to Boise snow driving, when Boise gets snow, sometimes it comes down rough and lots of Cali drivers cause wreaks on the morning commute. If lots of snow happens, please take the opportunity to take your car out to a snowy and slick open parking lot and find out how your car handles in adverse traction situations. It may save your/someone’s life one day knowing how to handle a slide in snow. Remember every car already has 4-wheel-brakes

I was going to move to Boise from Orlando FL. I'm glad I decided on Leadville Colorado instead. I didn't want to move to another overpriced, ugly city, and if I'm going to live in some place rural, it's going to be in a somewhat affordable mountain town in the forest, not the desert. Boise gets way too hot for me as someone who loves very cold winters and cool summers. If Idaho Falls wasn't so isolated, I'd consider living there over Boise for the weather alone. Places like Ketchum are pretty but way too expensive. I love living in a place where I never have to use air conditioning. I can handle the cold. It's the heat, dry or wet that I can't stand. As far as politics go, I wish Colorado as a whole was a bit more conservative, but both sides have terrible policies, so moving based on politics is rather pointless. I will say though, I hate California and most of the people that move from there, and I'm certainly not sorry for saying it. No one who encounters these people is better for the experience. I do get joy watching teslas with California plates getting stuck up here and towed away in the winter, though, hopefully never to return.

I am an Idaho native, and I am sad to see so many people moving here. I can remember when the Ketchum/Sun Valley area was a fun, family friendly and affordable place to camp, fish and play in. Now it is overpopulated and expensive with a bunch of entitled assholes who have ruined the whole area. Locals avoid it! And when people talk about our seasons, please know that you go from one extreme to the other, very hot or very cold, and usually very dry with low humidity. (Not great for the skin) And the wind never stops blowing, which is great for clean air, but in the winter it’s the cold wind that will cut through you like a knife. You might get just a few inches of snow, but the wind will turn it into large drifts. You will shovel yourself out, only to have the wind fill it back in.

It's a real thing. I lived in NY for twenty years and raised my two kids there. I decided to move back to MN/ND. A year later, my daughter, her husband and kids moved to Fargo, ND. They stayed three years. My daughter didn't like people's "attitudes " and moved back. She also said she understood me more as this is where I'm originally from. She used to think I was just crazy. Now she knows it's an entire culture. I STILL don't completely understand what her problem was. Regardless. She did have a better life financially in Fargo. Their brand new apartment had a double garage and every amenity. They now live in a house turned into two apartments built in 1900 in a Buffalo ghetto area for more money. No play area for kids. At least not the massive options available in Fargo.

They're probably referring to feeling politically and/or socially isolated. Should have just moved to the North End instead.....she'll find the echo chamber she is looking for. And in all fairness, conservatives also feel isolated surrounded by liberals. But, and this is an important distinction, conservatives are far more tolerant and accepting of differences in opinions than liberals are....so it doesn't bother us quite as much as it bothers them. So when a conservative moves because a place has gotten too politically hostile, you know its got to be truly an extreme situation. Hence, the exodus of conservatives from dark blue metros like the Bay Area and LA.

I moved here from Roseville, just North of Sacramento eight years ago. We lived in Calif for sixty years and only wish I had moved to Idaho right after I retired instead of waiting another ten years. Don't mind the winters, frankly they are not that bad. Boise may get nineteen inches of snow per year on average, but it rarely accumulates more than two or three inches at one time and melts quickly. The exception was the winter of 2016-17, locally referred to as "snowmageddon" a climatic anomaly. Summers are warmish, but on average, ten degrees cooler than where we came from, so that is a plus. Housing has gone up, traffic has increased greatly over the time we have lived here. But, there are lots of cities around Boise where real estate is less expensive and one reason why we built in a city to the West of the capitol. Politics and a conservative Idaho society are two of the reasons why we moved here and we have never regretted the decision to get out of California. Idaho has a smaller Government, one with a smaller footprint, one that is much less involved in social justice and regulating peoples lives. Never think that there are not so called progressives in Idaho. They are here and very vocal about how backward we are. Thankfully, they are in the minority, but if they ever get control, Idaho will just be another Calif, Oregon, Washington. Idaho is a great place to live, but it is not perfect for everyone. One thing to remember about California, it is a large state and very diverse geographically. Some areas are very hot, like Redding and Bakersfield. Some are temperate, usually on the coast. The Sierras have long very snowy winters like the Idaho mountains. Think about all the issues before you move.

There was a recent shooting in the parking garage and someone was murdered. I hate the politics in this state and the "progressive" movement. I am hoping to move to Idaho soon and enjoy the what makes it so great.
@johnjustintime3798

@@dasse6637 It's got to be the demographics - more "diversities" (unless they're the Asian professional ones) result in increases in most categories of crimes, not just the property crimes, but also the far more disturbing and personally impactful "crimes against persons". Its bad enough having your stuff stolen, or having to see graffiti and litter despoiling your neighborhood, but imagine if you are subjected to robberies, carjackings, random (but mostly racially targeted) assaults and other sorts of daily infringements on your traditional way of life ; this to me is what is the most appalling aspect of the racial aggression that is manifested by immigration and "multi-culturalism". It puts the "native" population in severe danger, degrades their society, upends their way of life, and is psychologically harmful. Its demoralizing not just on the personal level but on the social and national level too .We have all seen the studies that show how social trust is approaching zero thanks to the Balkanization that has been forced on this nation since 1965. I think a big component of the allure of Idaho is to escape that. Joe Biden called it the racial jungle, and while we make fun of him for it now, he wasn't wrong - it was perhaps one of the few honest public statements the man has ever made - articulating the horrors of forced integration and the problems that arise from trying to force disparate people into an association one or both of them do not voluntarily endorse or seek. I always tell folks, that the base reason for wanting to move to Idaho is "To be with my people." Because that is a natural human impulse. Nobody wants to live in a conquered territory, or a place from which their people have been essentially evicted or otherwise displaced by an influx of foreigners (which is what has happened to everyone who lives in a metro area of California over the last 50 years). A lot of us finally just said "Enough." We want to live in America, not some hybridized Third World colony.

Agree but that's mostly the metro areas. CA has a ton of entertainment and a lot of people there obviously so there is always a sense of hustle and bustle in the population centers. But a smaller town in CA is not too unlike a similar sized place in Idaho in that aspect (of feeling fast paced or not). I've often thought that were CA not a political lost cause (due to the demographic disaster that has unfolded there), much of the state would still be perfectly livable - the way it was when I was growing up in the Seventies. For example most of the Northern and Inland portions, excluding the mountains and the desert of course. Not as much so as the coastal region where everyone wants to live, but a lot of the relatively unpopulated portions of CA also have a moderate climate. Most of my life I thought at some point I'd just move up to the Sierras. But I've learned that lifestyle requires some sacrifices. And unfortunately as a product of Suburbia, there are some things I have become acclimated to. In addition to the mountain climate extremes, you are then also dealing either with extreme tourism or extreme isolation - there aren't that many places that have a happy medium. Think of how McCall is in the summer, then multiply that by 10 and that's what Tahoe is like every summer - its very frustrating for the locals, even though many of them rely totally on tourism for their livelihood - they get to experience the madness of crowds that also brings drugs, crime, litter, etc. All the social ills you moved away from the cities to escape, will come to a tourist area if its popular enough or in close enough proximity to attract the metro people. I don't mind occasional cold or heat , but after seeing how my mountain friends were snowed in by blizzards and had to get snowcatted supplies, or got evacuated because the ice snapped all the power lines and they had no heating, it sort of turned me off the idea. I'd still consider the Sierra foothills (although you have the wildfire issues and the fire insurance fiasco now). Idaho for me offers enough of a balance where I can still basically live in a burb but get up to the mountains easily. The other CA people I know appreciate this too. Most of us aren't cold-weather people, because we were born and raised at sea level in a coastal area. But we like the opportunity to do winter sports also. Its sort of funny, instead of sitting in traffic on US 80 for 2 hours we can sit in traffic on 55 for 2 hours. Not much has changed with that!

During those two years nearly every young person I met was bored to death living in Idaho. And being a missionary I met A LOT of people. They ALL were interested in California. That's just the way it was. Many of them I knew did move away over time. I get it that Californians can sell their homes for a mint and then go to Idaho with money only the largest of farmers might have. And they can afford most any home they want. In my twenties, I moved away and spent 20 years between Baltimore, Maryland, and Dayton, Ohio. I enjoyed both places but always felt like I NEEDED to get back home. I finally made it back in my 40s. As you pointed out, earning enough to match the cost of living is challenging, but if you can do it, it's worth it! For those considering moving here, the rumors about Idahoans not being all that friendly are true! But only towards those who want to CHANGE what we have. If you love it so much that you want to live here, please understand that we will not like you if you try to turn it into the place you wanted to escape! CA was pretty much conservative or moderate until immigration did a number on it. It wasn't the "california exodus" from the 1960s and 1970s. Ronald Reagan was governor for 8 years until 1975, by which time the effects of the demographic shift due to the 1965 Immigration and National Act, and the cultural malaise of the 70s came into play. By the 1990s, a mostly still balanced electorate had demographically tilted over to unbreakable democrat uniparty control and its been a trainwreck ever since . There's no "check and balance" operating in CA anymore so it reflects the worst excesses of what is arguably the most reckless political ideology ever created.

The hidden Gem was advertised right out of a being hidden Gem. The infrastructure was never meant to handle the huge influx of people.The traffic is ridiculous for Idaho. I moved almost 6 hrs away out of the Treasure valley 10 yrs ago after being born, raised there, raising my kids. I now live in a place where it is 40 miles from any town. There are places in Idaho with a lot of snow. Winter of 22-23 I had 12 Feet of snow and was snowed in 98 days. That was extreme. But a regular year I still get 6 feet all the way around. And it gets extremely cold. Especially with 45 mph -60 mph winds and not just in winter. But I don't like going back to the Treasure Valley- but do because my kids and grandkids live there.

And nothing beats Tahoe
