My brother and I have been obsessed with the AMC Nicole Kidman thing for going on a year. I swear, doing impressions of that true masterpiece has been the one thing standing between me and a complete serotonin withdrawal on many occasions. To go even further, art and visual design, are never talked seriously about when it comes to comedy, but the way this show is edited and curated is using the medium of digital collage to tell jokes, the way the girls are edited into the scenes is misshapped and roughly done to enhance the joke that they're remaking the scene poorly, the over exaggerated text and images are used to complement the exaggerated aesthetic of drag, it's really wonderful.

I think it really need to be said that there are 2 types of mentalities when it comes to “free time” and both are valid. For one group, free time is “doing time” it’s time you’re AVAILABLE, and active. People who view free time in such a way can’t fathom the idea of needing to do nothing, they typically can’t let themselves relax even if there’s nothing they need to get done. The other group uses the term “free time” but this does NOT mean “I’m available”. It means “I need to schedule periods of being alone and doing nothing productive.” For many people “free time” is “nothing time” it is a set time period where the goal is doing nothing. And this isn’t “wasted time” or the person “being lazy”. These periods of quiet introspection and lack of activity are VERY necessary and cannot be removed, moved around, shortened or omitted. If someone needs you to do something during this time, or asks “are you free?”, unfortunately the answer is “NO.” And it is not your job as the person on the other end to question this and ask “well, you’re not doing anything right? Cant you just do it if you’re not doing anything?” No. No we cannot. We are “free” but we are not AVAILABLE. Time is being spent in a necessary way doing nothing. It is vital to our functioning.
