I know if I've not used a language much recently then I'll maybe be able to understand what someone else is saying but if I want to say anything myself then I'll need a minute. Think of it like forgetting a word you don't use much in English. You know what it means, if someone else says it you'll remember, but you may need a moment to remember if you haven't seen or heard it recently.

For example, a lot of french people pronounce the english sound « th » with the french prononciation of the sound « z ». Katya on the other end, is able to make sounds in french that are very hard to do for english speaking natives, such as the sounds « on », « en » and « in ».
