I'm not a CNA but I am a caregiver at a senior living facility, it is absolutely true. When helping them up from a chair or bed you really can't grab them by the arm because they bruise suuuuuper easily. We use the gait belts all the time, or, in some cases, hold them up by the back of their pants

I have to get infusions of medication every few weeks, and recently this one elderly lady -screamed- when the nurse took off the adhesive holding the needle port in her arm. I was so shocked. I think her skin was so, so thin that her nerves were basically right under the surface. Keeping your skin moisturized and staying out of the sun when you're younger can help prevent some thinning!

I was a CNA for a very long time, and I can say unfortunately I have had the same thing happen to me. Some of them their skin gets so thin that it's just bruised all the time. The lady I was transferring with what is called a gait belt, from her bed to her wheel chair. Home girls back was bleeding, when we checked sure as shit her skin legit peeled back. She was just like "oh yeah that happens". Ma'am what!?! Why are you so calm? 😭😭😭

Yup Trixie is right I'm not a CNA but I work with clients with disabilities and I worked with this disabled client who was in an electric wheelchair and he was in his 80's. He was getting to the point he couldn't drive his electric wheelchair around himself and one day he ran in to a wall and the skin on his forearm just peeled back like butter. It was so bad! 😭🤢

Even when I bathe her and towel her off even the towel touching her skin hurts her 😢 But she is very healthy otherwise and mentally all there so we are very lucky.
