I think it's really important that they were talking about how certain types of jobs can affect people mentally. Like what Katya was saying how she was struggling with feeling like she's never had a day off since doing what she loves for her job. I was working those same jobs in Wisconsin at the same time and can say that was true! I was a cute teen girl at the time and they had me do all the interactive jobs and the dudes were doing the bussing and kitchen work. The thought was that the "gross" stuff was men's work. Like being around messes and garbage. The view was that women are better nurturers and peace keepers so it is normal and natural that they would be best at serving. You couldn't trust a wild boy to be reasonable socially. Boys will be boys. You'd have fighting and scenes. Not if the servers are mild mannered women tho. It was just the view of what is real. And the pretty teen girls were the ones they wanted most visible. It was very dangerous for us because we were sexually harassed all day long by customers. Because that was the point. Making the public interact with vulnerable pretty young women. People like doing that and having power over someone. And there's nothing more fun for a man than to push around a lovely vulnerable woman. If I were a server now as the fat, middle aged worldly lady that I am... I wouldn't be getting attention and promotions as much as I did as a teen. Because I laughed awkwardly at sexual harassment when I was young but now I can recite a dissertation at someone who tries it and get them fired from their job. But not me at 17. She giggled and then cried in the kitchen later. They don't like the angry and powerful version. And that's fucking lame as hell. @Trixie_Mattel thanks for keeping it real. History is important. And change is still needed.
