Yup. And as one of these marginalized group I loathe their movement. They can change their weight, but I as a black man can’t change how I look so easily. And the whole person of size classification is just gross too. Highjacking people of color and warping it to their fatness. Wild times.

I find the phrase "people who are in fat bodies" very ...... manipulative. It should be "people who HAVE fat bodies". By stating it this way, you are taking OWNERSHIP of your body. You HAVE it, therefore you OWN IT. But by saying "people who are IN fat bodies", it sounds like it was some kind of ACCIDENT that you are morbidly obese and that an obese body just somehow magically landed on you out of nowhere. But then we already know the famous death fats on YT are all about manipulation.

@ExpectTheSpanishInquisition it really bothers me when they refer to fat people as "fat bodies" ... they are literally objectifying themselves. It gives me the ick, honestly. I wish that the FA movement was more about being treated with respect and basic human decency regardless of your size, and less about making your size your entire personality and the only thing about you that matters...

@@gunnargislason5221 I can't be as generous as you. Your personality is NOT the only thing that matters about you. I cannot respect a person who so completely ignores their past trauma/mental health issues that they're literally eating themselves to death in order to cope. Nine out of eleven obese fat activists/body positivity leaders/You Tubers died at 42 or younger. The other two died at 46 and 49. That's almost HALF the expected life span of a physically healthy person!! Obese people cause everyone else's health care costs to go up and put abnormally high pressure on the health care system. So obese people need to get their heads out of the sand, put their adult pants on, and instead of making those tired/over-used EXCUSES for their weight, get into THERAPY and shed a bunch of dress sizes! You will FEEL so - much - better and you WILL get respect for respecting YOURSELF.

As a martial arts instructor, I can tell you that any wheelchair user can join a regular boxing studio or other fighting style and can learn how to fight. It is elitism in essence. It's ironic because being so large is not anything to aspire to and yet they seek admiration from others and come off "better than". Even the tone they use feels like they're speaking down to us. I'm truly plus size 1x on the top size 18 on the bottom and they have gotten so exclusive that they don't even consider actually plus size girls like me as plus size. They say we're midsize 🤣🤣🤣 it's flattering but that ain't reality. I'm obese they are extreme. It feels like they took over the plus size community and turned it into a fat acceptance community but only if your fat enough 😂

The fact that she needs to feel "celebrated" at the gym proves to me that fat acceptance was never really about confidence, it's about coddling your insecurities. If you can't step foot in a normal gym because you feel uncomfortable about people watching you, you're not confident in your larger body, you're actually very insecure... Not saying that fat people never get bullied/stared at at the gym, but as someone on a weight loss journey myself, if you were truly self-confident and didn't care about what other people thought, you would go and do what you want that makes you feel good instead of using that as an excuse to stay home and not move your body.

I don't really do much but I want to be super rewarded for the little things that I do do LOL. And I'm a large girl myself so I'm not. The skill level range for seated workouts is HUGE, and there are so many FREE resources online and ways to track your progress. If it genuinely makes her that happy, why not incorporate that into her weekly routine? She doesn't even have to approach it from a weight loss angle. She could do it just to build stamina and be happier.

I struggle every day, trying to make money as an artist in a world where AI- the kind Jaebae is so fond of using for her work- just steals work from me and my fellow artists and spits out a crappier version of what I do, but for FREE... meanwhile she is literally flying all over the world, she is clearly financially comfortable, and is complaining about having to pay for a second seat on the plane. Jaebae, maybe you should half what you spend on groceries, put it aside for the second plane seat. By the time you have enough to pay for it you'll not even need it anymore. She's stepping on the backs of actual disabled people to profit. Calling herself disabled would be like an alcoholic telling me that they're not a drunk, they just have the special need of having to be drunk all the time. She put herself in this situation and now she expects the rest of us to pity her and go "awww poor baby."

I can understand her being so high/emotional after the gym partially due to the community aspect of it, rather than just from the workout itself. It may feel exciting for her to go to a space where people with the same body type as her are also working out. I see how while she /could/ do seated workouts at home, it would be more motivating and empowering to go to a space where there are other people cheering you on.

So, by being in this shoot, you're consenting for your images to be used without compensation? And you have to pay them to use your own images going forward? Jae Bae, what in the grift? This is bonkers. This gym does sound like a great concept- there are physical differences in their target population, and the trainers are versed in working with that population and know what adaptations might be needed. I have no issue with the gym. That said, we know she's not going to go again unless they comp her classes or give her free stuff, and that's truly sad.

While she’s not wrong for having photo shoots in a way that makes her money, monetized art is judged on how valuable that art really is, whether it truly imparts insight or beauty or escapist fun. The disconnect we’re feeling is from the fact that she’s “celebrating” Fatcon instead of, you know, attending Fatcon.

I get what you're saying about not needing to feel "seen" at the gym, but I do really empathize with JaeBae on that. I used to be a binary trans man and didn't pass at all, but used the men's locker room at the gym (and men's public restrooms). I never once had a negative experience in the locker room, but the world is what it is right now and it was terrifying regardless of never having a problem. I found a gym that has all-gender facilities - their lockers are in an open space, but they have single-room toilets, changing rooms, and showers with locking doors. It was such a load off to not worry about the *possibility* of someone taking issue with me being in the "wrong" space. It's really a shame that her video about that gym only got 81 likes - spaces like that should exist and are a godsend for folks who have emotional trouble getting to ths gym. Like I usually find JaeBae annoying, but I was so genuinely and earnestly thrilled for her that she found a space where she could enjoy working out. I wish her audience was that happy for her, too. It must be a total mindfuck to know that deep down your audience is happy when you're unhappy.

Just wanted to share that as of yesterday I’m officially 45lbs down, 15-20lbs to go! I’m 5’1 and have 110lbs of fat free mass (got it done professionally) so I’ll never really be in the “normal” bmi category unless I’m crazy lean, and that’s assuming I don’t put on any muscle (which I plan to), but my goal is to be at a body fat of around 25% (approx 145-150lbs) then just maintain and build muscle. It’s shocking every day how close I am to my goal. I didn’t lose pretty much any weight from Jan-Nov 2024 after losing 35 the year before, but I got back on it December 1st, and from then I’ve lost 10lbs. To think I’m only a few months from my goal? Kinda crazy

I hope she has all the props and lighting for these shoots. She will need at least an hours break after each shoot session considering she needs a mobile scooter and oxygen. Seems all that "disability" at the airport, with the inability to walk and needing oxygen could have been stretching the truth eh?

The gyms in my area are very friendly. Idk if it's because of southern hospitality that's beaten into us, or just people being genuine. Sure, some will stare all judgmentally, but most are trying to figure out if it's okay to talk to people who are physically disabled or obese due to the social climate involving fat activism. My towns gym culture is one of respect. We love an underdog. We actually had a woman compete in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris. We celebrated her. Literally. There was a party celebrating her and then a watch party. We also have several people who have lost a lot of weight and we celebrate them. Dudes doing state body building competitions are also celebrated. We are generally uplifting. Side note, if you feel that you are being stared at, it is probably people like me who become NPCs between sets. Or people watching.

I suspect JaeBae is a more minor character in this project than she's implying - the photographer Beth Olsen's name is on the programme but not hers. Looking at the sessions, there's a surprising amount of fitness stuff: a powerlifting demo, a champion strength athlete as a guest, panels on fat people in fitness, "fat girl parkour", burlesque dancing classes, a dance and a pool mermaid session... If it wasn't for the HAES-type talks and the "liberation" stuff, this could actually be an event that did some useful things for the obese community. Even the "how to deal with medical mistreatment" session could be good if it dealt with actual issues in medical mistreatment - but somehow one suspects it'll be about avoiding being talked to about weight...

Where does JaeBae think this "photo representation" is going to actually be presented to the world? Think she's going to hand it to Hollywood and suddenly TV & movies will show it? How about advertising commissioned by private companies to sell their products? Nope, NONE of those will care. The only place this magic photo collection will be on display is their private echo chamber web servers. The rest of the world won't be going there. This does NOTHING.... so in that sense JaeBae was ironically accurate in saying that she was going to do "everything in her power".

been into 3 different gyms (commercial, private, and public) for the past 3 years, and one thing they have in common is that people don't give a poop about you and how you look (well, unless you're not wearing shoes/proper gym attire). They won't even offer to correct your form unless you ask them how to do a certain workout properly. It's mostly our insecurities that give us the feeling that people are making fun of us 24/7. I'm socially awkward and introvert since childhood, and I can say that it I'm more at peace in a gym than going to malls.
