After a lot of testing and modification the Hiland regulated and adjustable power supply kit is now functioning very well. However, we had to restrict it to 0-20V and 0-25A and make some (many) changes.

Thanks. Your mods and those done on @Elecifun channel seem to be perfect answer for my linear psu.

Just a couple of comments, the rule of thumb is 2200uF/ 1amp. Also if you use a bridge rectifier the transformer must be able to deliver 1.41 X the output current. On some of these PCBs T3 is the wrong way around what results in the current limiter not working. I build this power supply in a 0.....30V and 0......3A and it works well with a correct transformer and sufficient capacitors I also added a extra transistor and emitter resistor to divide the load. Used a old CPU heatsink with a fan and even when shorted it only gets hand warm. I hope this helps.

Thanks! Sometimes I may put things aside, but only if they have not given me a challenge. LOL!

Great work to get the kit running! Could you please summarize all changes you have done? There was the zener diode, R12 and R18, right? Did I miss something?

Thanks. I'll put a summary in the description of the last video in the next day or so. There is more to it.

I enjoyed your videos on the Temu 30v 3a power supply. I bought two of them and neither work. The second one I put in Circuit IC Sockets Connectors for the Tl081’s. And ordered some 1/2 watt resistors to replace the 81 ohm because it was getting very hot. I built a simple op amp tester and one checked bad on second kit. I replaced it with a good one and got 31 volts for about 6 seconds. The Tl081 got so hot it burned my finger and then it went back to negative.6 volts at the output. Same as the first one I built. I am a hobbyist so it gets over my head pretty quick, but wanted to know if you had time to give me some suggestions. Thank you, Jack

I pretty much cover everything in this series. Did you see part 4? Look at it and ask me some specific questions if they are not answered by then.

that tl081 don't usually feel about 24V p2p ac supply. apart from that this circuit has so many design flows. i have it though, on my table, serving 0-20V / 0-1.8amps, with a 0-18V transformer, just to be on the safe side without any mods. thanks for recommending 3.9v zener and lm741. i may just change them someday.

Are there any schematics out there for this power supply with voltages. That would help me a lot.
@uni-byte

Not that I'm aware of. I found only two schematics and neither had voltages on them.

The Capacitor is getting Hot.! Something is desperately wrong there. The 741's are good move. (1.1 billion manufactured ever 10 months). We should be buying them by the bushel...

The capacitor had an ESR of more than 3 times that of the Nichicon! For 99% of what you need an op-amp for, the 741 is golden.
