Graduated in 2016. The worst thing about Winchester is easily the expense of it all. I was VERY deep in my overdraft by the end of it all (though I stayed to do a Masters) so I wouldn't advise being poor, even with a grant. Was well worth it though! Make sure you join a society and go to BOP on Wednesday.

Looks like the uni has been really developed in the last few years. West Downs was brand new when I was there. Strange location for a uni in that it's sandwiched between a prison, a hospital and graveyard, lol. Some nice places in town to go to, but it's so quiet on weekends - particularly Sundays. Coming from London it's a real shock.

Great video! I do have one question though. I read on the Winchester TNC’s on the freshers info pack thing. But they said that there can’t be any ‘Parties’ in any of the halls, as if you’re ‘caught’ you then receive a level one warning or smt. So what do they really mean by that. Obvs students will have social with music and drinks etc. But is that just a rule that is mostly disregarded? I’ve never come across a rule like that with any other Uni’s I’ve heard of. What’s you’re experience of this? Just something that’s been playing on my mind 😂.Thanks 👍

Hey, glad you liked the vid :) I think they say that to try to prevent things getting too wild but in my experience it was never enforced. Obviously as a student you'll have people over for drinks, play music, etc. As long as you're not making a ridiculous amount of noise you should be fine!

Worth pointing out that the societies pack out the SU on Wednesdays (BOP) and that used to be SO much better than Vodka or Bar3One when that was there. Dunno if Bop has changed since I graduated in 2016 but just a thought.

Hey, as with any city there are part time jobs going, you just need to keep an eye out ☺️ Pubs, shop work & the SU were all popular student choices when I was at uni in Winch. Factor in how many hours you could realistically work whilst balancing your studies & social life at uni & don’t forget student finance if you’re entitled as it’s a big help!

Student loan covered it! Lots of people got jobs or help from parents in terms of extra spending money though X

I wish I knew about it being so expensive before applying haha. I've been searching for accommodation online (EU gal here) and I'm certain that not every building is a two floor house with a pool like what I've seen online, but what's been popping up online was pretty high up there in terms of price. I'm gonna go to UK in August, a month before starting. Do you think I'll be able to find something reasonably priced in time? I'm coming with my boyfriend and our best friend, we're both going to Winchester Uni and we were hoping to find an apartment so that all of us could live together. Sorry for this message being sooooo long 😖

Halls are set price but student housing can vary a little although it's still expensive by uni standards. To give you benchmark figures to work off, I was paying around £500 a month for accommodation bills included but the lowest I know people paid was £420 (although there could be lower still- this was just my experience). Typically the further you are from uni the cheaper it will be so you could check out 'Winnall' direction or if you wanted, you could commute from Southampton or somewhere which would be cheaper again. Check out Goadsby and Lithend Estates as they are two of the biggest student estate agents I can remember off the top of my head. Also, if you contact the uni they sometimes have flats/houses for students that are rented out by private landlords. I hope this helps gal. Yes it's expensive but it really is a wonderful place and if you are still struggling in August, contact the uni and they should be able to offer more advice and help :)

@@ladyjusta26 Worry not, you'll find something. It's a lot easier to find something for two people from what I've seen online. If it was just my boyfriend and I, it would've been so much easier. But we can't really leave our friend on his own, so we'll have to find something that works. Just keep looking and check out nearby towns as well. I found some pretty good offers. ✨

No not at all! Most people make their best uni pals through their course and societies anyway as when you think about it they are more likely to be the people you have shared interests and things in common with. Put yourself out there and I'm sure you'll have a great time :)
