@@Hannah01 Make as many friends as possible but don't be afraid to lose them/change friend groups throughout the year! join sports and societies based on whether you think you could fit in with the group, even if this means picking up a new skill or hobby. if you go somewhere with a cutthroat housing market, start looking as soon as you can but try not to get too invested or offended if it doesn't work out with a group. and as for lectures, make as many notes as possible beforehand based on whatever materials they give you so that the lecture is just additional information. Good luck!!

Hearing you talk so highly about university makes exited but also scared to finally go to university, like, what if I don’t like the course I’m taking? What if I waste all of my mom’s money? It scared me a lot, my dream university is a private one, in New York (I’m Portuguese, so it’s not something that’s very common) and I’m just so nervous

just remember there are so so so so many options, and you'll definitely find the perfect place / course for you! just be open-minded; Durham wasn't my initial first choice but it's turned out to be the perfect place for me!

This year I read on average 5 poems, one novel, one play, one/two (long) Old English poems, one/two books from the Bible, and a chapter of a textbook each week, as well as critical articles and tutorial notes etc. Merry Christmas to you too!

the clip where they are all singing 12 days of Christmas in this way is just the best thing ever. Too bad that in my country's universities people and ESPECIALLY boys are so insecure about their masculinity, so they would never do such a thing, as we say in Greek "they are playing it heavy and unliftable", they have to show they are so hard and too cool to sing Christmas songs, even showing up to such a dinner would be a stretch:-( maybe that's because most of my friends are girls

I LOVE IT! Towards the end of term I was ready to go home for sure (I hadn't seen my family for 11 weeks!), but I wouldn't say homesick as such. I think it's such a personal thing though - for me, I have never really felt homesickness before but I know quite a few of my uni friends who went home for the weekend several times. Once you surround yourself with lovely new friends and get stuck in with uni life it's definitely manageable though. Definitely don't let it put you off!
