UNICOMP Model M Classic 104 White REVIEW: Best Typing Keyboard.

There are so many keyboards out there. You should really try them all, but if you type a lot and want to really frustrate those around you, this is the keyboard. It is also one of the most comfortable keyboards I know. UNICOMP out of Lexington actually uses many of the original molds from IBM to make these, really cool.

Thank you for the video. I was a bit confused at first because "New Model M" is an actual name of a different Unicomp product. The one in the video, while it is a 're-release' of the Model M and it is NEW, is actually called "Classic 104 White Buckling Spring USB"🙂Or "Classic 104" for short. Looks like a great keyboard -- and I love the look! I ordered one and waiting for delivery.

@michaelchomiczewski7937 There are a lot of different versions on their website. You are correct that the specific model I was holding was the Classic 104. I believe that my title is correct. I meant to communicate the point that this is not an original model m from the 80's but is a brand new production model from unicomp. Sorry if you were confused.

@@nickschatko oh no worries at all! On a side note, if this keyboard turns out to be all that I'm hoping for, I'd probably like to get the "shaved off" "New Model M"for wok. If they have it in same color scheme (right now does not seem to be the case; but maybe I'm just not finding it on their site). Failing thet, a keyboard called "Sun Unix SpaceSaver USB Keyboard" also looks sweet. Except for the price 🤣

​ @nickschatko I have not decided yet🤣 Keyboard is BIG and very LOUD. But I'm not sure that I'm any more precise on it than on what I have gotten used to typing over the past decade or so. Which is low profile, mostly Apple magic keyboards. This thing is very VERY clicky, which I guess is cool, but a bit TOO loud for me . Try typing on this when you have a headache 🙃 My fingers have to travel what seems like a MUCH longer distance to type each letter (I mean vertically; because key travel is so much longer than what I'm used to).Other than that... I have had an issue with my first device and Unicomp is shipping an RMA replacement. So kudos for them for standing firmly behind their products. The original still mostly works though so I do use it to type when on PC. But it has not been much since I got the ting. Long way to say -- the jury is still out 😁

I was working IT in a large hotel in the early 2000s. While digging through boxes in my store room I found a new in the box IBM Model M keyboard with a DIN connector. It was larger than a standard full sized keyboard, but it was perfect for the computer room KMV switch. Got a P/S2 adapter and fell in love with it! When I retired in 2015 it was still working like the day I unboxed it! Bought a Unicomp EnduraPro with the TrackPoint for a PC on our loading dock as the cabinet it was in had limited space for a mouse. It had a very similar feel to the IBM. I am thinking about getting a New Model for Unicomp for personal use.

I love mine. I do find it takes up a lot of space but it has to be the best keyboard for lots of typing (and annoying those around you). I’d love to hear your thoughts on new vs old once you get it!

Nice video 👍. I just bought the Model M SSK from unicomp last month, since they are finally back in stock. I have a 1989 Model M and a few early 2000's unicomp. The tactile feel is just about the same between them all, but I think they get better through age and usage. Enjoy and keep typing!
