Gameplay-wise, I haven’t been this captivated by a strategy RPG since I first played Fire Emblem (the Blazing Blade) on the Gameboy Advance. Aesthetically, this is peak medieval fantasy, really feels like you’re taking part in an Arthurian Legend. The plot is kinda simple, sure, but it’s that 1980s good vs evil kind of simple that I adore.

It not being turn based actually makes the world feel alive and that there are multiple troop movements all happening at the same time. Do I understand it right that on the battle scene you cannot control your units? It is some kind of autobattler there?
@SoulbreakerNB8 ай бұрын
it's all about unit and squad preparation. before fighting, make sure your tactics are set up properly or else you lose the fight. squad complexity goes up the higher lvl'd the enemy units are from you. at first, you can only have a 2-3 man squad. When you fight with endgame units, they are always a 5-man squad that synergizes with each other most of the time. This is one of the reasons why at the early stage of the game (demo) are so shallow because you can only see the basics of combat in-game. by the mid-endgame, you need to utilize efficient tactics setup and unit synergies to survive/win in a fight. Take note that Vanillaware aren't known for having difficult games. You just need to know how to take advantage of systems that was provided to you, just like any other turn-based tactical RPGs (even though they say that this game is "realtime", it is still turn based since you can pause the fight whenever you want to move a unit).

I did find the demo too easy on expert but assumed that was because of early areas only. Hardest difficulty should be a damn challenge. I don't want to put self imposed restrictions on myself while playing to MAKE it tough. That's what the difficulty settings are there for. I shall find out for myself soon enough however. I tried the demo, and I'm not completely sold on the auto battling. It seems like a system that will make the in-battle tactics either shallow if you don't have to change the programming for specific fights or, if the tactics are more intricate and you do have to change it regularly, it's needlessly more cumbersome and complicated than picking action demands during battle. My first instinct is that the game would have been easier to make engaging if there was a manual battle option, while leaving the current system as an auto option and keeping the action and passive points. Can someone who played the game enlighten me? Am I overlooking something that makes the current battle system better than it looks at first?
@SoulbreakerNB8 ай бұрын
You can save tactics template if you really want to. Just make sure that when assigning conditions to your unit's attacks/passives, they can deal with enemies in a way that you don't have to change it every time. You can always switch out different units for a different situation anyways. You can even use equipment that has skills of their own that can help or hinder your squad the way you want them to. This game is very easy once you apply this one word in every setup: Efficiency.

I don't really think the story is an issue. The fact that it's a collection of interwoven local tales as opposed to a giant central tale isn't a bad thing; it really matches the gameplay perfectly. It's a story about a prince liberating the world, and he does it one skirmish at a time, in whatever order makes sense. If they had tried to cram an epic fantasy narrative into the game, it would feel at odds with the core gameplay loop.

It is the first time I heard about this game, and I am definitely buying it. I am big fan of Fire Emblem!

Big think for hardcore srpg enthusiasts, this game is REALLY easy. Once you figure out the game's systems it crumbles so fast under it so don't go in expecting a nail biting experience for anyone that is seasoned in higher diffiulty srpgs.

it's a good intro for anyone at srpg

I though the demo was already the full but is not. This is an amazing game for people who loves SRPGs.

Does the story and dialogue get better after the demo area? It's so self-serious but also shallow and trope-y. If the story becomes more interesting I might pick it up at some point. Games like this need at least an interesting story or engaging characters to keep me playing.

The thing to take note of. The translation team behind this game are the same people that worked on several Fire emblem localizations. Basically expect the same shallow & trope-y experience as many of the FE localizations

If you want to enjoy the story, I recommend just listening to the japanese dub. localization team went out of their way making the english translation of their dialogues so old-english-y that it sometimes drags the scene, making it awkward.

naah, the gameplay alone could take a week of ur life
