I just bought the same scanner. I learned a lot from you during this video paid almost $600 I think for it well worth the money specially with the features being handheld hook it up in the vehicle and you can have it at your home patrol. Thanks for the information.

as far as I can tell there isn't much of a choice out there. but here is a quick list for you to check out. Uniden BCD996P2 it is a mobile/base Home Patrol-2 mobile/base PSR-800 Whistler WS1095 Pro-668 All hand-held units except as noted. Pro-668 is made by Whistler so it is 6-1 half a dozen the other. ALL are capable of decoding phase II and it looks like it is all heading that way so my money is on a P2 unit when I get around to buying another one I would have bought one this time but I came in blind and bought a 396 it works well as a P1 and standard trunking as well as conventional but not too well on MOSWIN unless on my tower antenna and those are the ones that haven't been converted yet.

Yeah, I posted a you tube video myself proving how poorly it does with Phase 2 in NJ. Even the police departments who use phase 2 digital have complained about reception issues. However, it does a fine job decoding phase 1.

Yes that's a problem with bigger cities. Radio shop contractors always scamming with pointless new sites, simulcasts, radios, frequency changes, mode changes, TGID changes just to milk more money out. Degeneracy.

@@kishascape It used to be much worse. When I owned my first BCD436 model, it did a horrible job picking up P25 Trunking. However, my 2nd radio after updating its firmware, showed improved performance. Definitely far from perfect still. Here im NJ, haven't seen any TGID changes except for more departments going encrypted.

It seems like on mine the arrow on the top right corner needs to be pointing down 👇 in order to pick up the frequencies is there a way to keep that in the down direction all the time because I always have to change it because it starts out in the up direction

Great radio, but I don't care for the multi vol-sq knob (i have the bcd325p2). I would prefer the outer ring knob as was used in the Sportcat that I had.

Yes, zip programming will pull in the trunked systems in the area. Be sure to edit the service types so you only hear what you want. It does not include an ac adapter. Only a usb cable. I would recommend using Sentinel software from Uniden to update the database to get the most up to date systems.

I actually do think it’s worth it. If you have the extra money to spend. Just the screen contrast in and of itself is a worthy upgrade. The scanners themselves perform similarly except in simulcast systems. That’s where the SDS100 will shine.

I am interested in buying this scanner. My local sheriff's office have changed all of their signals to digital and their freqs are 800.00 and higher. Will this scanner be able to pick up those freqs?

Lee McMillion This scanner covers 700, 800 and some 900 MHz bands. It should pick up any public safety agency unless they are encrypted. I would suggest going to radioreference.com and select the database tab, then your state, county, etc. Find your agency and see if it is encrypted. If you are still unsure, select the forums tab and ask in your states forums. Hope that helps.

+metal I don't think there is a max range. You can input any number in the range, but the farther the range the less effective it will be. You will just open up the database and be scanning large numbers of frequencies without receiving anything. I set mine at 0. Because that way I only get what is in a zip code. Think about how much area a zip code covers, and I think it is plenty of data to scan. I wouldn't do more than 20 miles to keep the amount of data you will be scanning.

you can set the range to what you like be advised you are loading more frequencies at that point and with most portable antennas you probably won't get much over 30 miles from your location under the best conditions.

SDS100 is water resistant. Handles simulcast a lot better. And the screen is amazing

I love the radio.it fits in my pocket better than whisler.I can see the cons and pros between whisler and this radio.I still like whisler.it has better speaker more loude with whisler.just the rubber ducky on the uniden I can pick up 100 miles were I live with uniden.I am sure with whisler. My state dos phase 1 anolog towers with digital modulation. P25 .there is no phase 2 simcast or digital towers.its all in the 150.000 range.what I like to do is set the thrust hold setting on my radio with sq.it works awsome.no digital break up.but thrust hold settings dos not work on simcast.if I had the I would buy the newest uniden with up graded simcast reception.I never owned a whisler but watch bunch you tube videos.one thing about the uniden is the design is cheap plastic that breaks and the screen scratches but touch.very cheap built.

Kandi Klover I do a lot walking I like the fack that the 436 fits in my front flanal pock perfect. Whisler is to whide for that but it still a great radio.uniden breaks soon you drop it.

Absolutely will pick up analog. It’ll pick up digital as long as it’s one of the supported modes and not encrypted

@@MaverickFlyBoy622 Yes sir, it will pick up airband. If I wanted better airband performance in a digital scanner, I would look at the BCD325P2. It's smaller and doesn't have on board recording like the 436HP but the airband reception is better. FYI, All of the modern digital scanners will pick up analog and digital.

I doubt you can power it through USB. Uniden has never set up this feature is previous handhelds.

Yes it can. It is saved in a folder on the SD card. Simply plug the scanner up to your computer via the supplied cable and copy or you can remove the SD card and use an SD card reader.

I'm sorry, I do not know the answer to that. I think if you could get the scanner connected to the PC, you could then use Sentinel to program the radio. But on the radio itself, I do not see any accessability settings.

+Golden Eagle yes it will do simulcast. If you use Uniden Software it will update the database to the most current. That info is pulled from radio reference. Butel is also pulled from radio reference.

+Golden Eagle Pressing and holding 2, 9, and Dept when you power on the scanner will clear all user data. The skips you are hearing is probably a setting like close call is on. You can set Close Call to off or Do Not Disturb. Or Priority is on and needs to be set to off or DND. Hope that helps.

why would I want a trunk scanner over a regular police scanner? if I' asking this right, I don't know the difference, I used to have an old radio shack scaner i paid 40 for years ago it could listen to cordless phones, but they said that it was being made illegal that year so I bought the last one, then of course that was stolen....

Depends on where you live and what you monitor. Most of the law enforcement and emergency services are moving towards P25-Phase 2 trunked systems for their radio broadcasts making older units obsolete for monitoring them. This doesn't effect all of them... yet, but its moving towards there… also sadly some counties are encrypting their communications so no scanner is going to let you listen to those. That old scanner you paid 40 for isn't going to be able to follow these trunked systems, another thing it can't be rebanded for the changes to the 800 MHz band the FCC has currently been having restructured which won't mean as much as it cant really follow trunked signals anyway. So it really comes down to how much you monitor the 800 MHz band which for most places encompasses most of police and fire and ambulance. This scanner offers the most options for tracking trunked for the least amount of price, granted you will need to upgrade to follow certain trunk systems.

yeah it has high internal noise. That was supposed to be fixed in later revisions of this radio but it still was pretty bad. This than the whole SDS launch fiasco is what made me finally just switch to GRE/Whistler. Oh how I've missed out all these years >.

desmond rich tough choice. Both are great radios. If I were choosing just 1 of those, I'd go with the 436HP. More features. Better screen. Longer battery life. The 325 does have better airband reception but the 436 is a better all around scanner in my opinion.

I'd go with the 436 as they still are supporting it (they didn't put out the most recent upgrade for the 325) also the 436 is designed to be more user friendly (although digital scanners are going to be a learning curve to anyone use to the old bank/channel system scanners)

Spencer Bruno I like this radio. It has an upgrade available that allows MOTORBO recieving (as long as it is not encrypted). Will also do ProVoice. Both are paid upgrades.

Getting started with a general set up is very easy. You can just input your zip and the services you want to hear (fire, police, utilities, etc.) and you will be up and running. If you want a more focused (personalized) programming, you can download the free Sentinel software and go that route.

Why aren't you better prepared to make this video? Trying to do a whole review with just one hand because you have to hold the camera with the other hand is annoying. Going through all the menu items is boring as hell. What people want to know is how well it receives and is it worth the money. This was one of the most annoying reviews I have ever seen.
