Nice review! I enjoyed it. I did a review on my channel of the Home Patrol 1. I absolutely love my Home Patrol 1 These Home Patrol scanners make life so easy! I cannot directly attest to the Home Patrol 2 because there really is no need yet for me to buy the Home Patrol 2 because there is currently no P25 phase 2 traffic in my area. But when there is, you can bet I will get the Home Patrol 2 or maybe by then there will be a Home Patrol 3!. Great review! I appreciated it and thanks for sharing it with us.

The home patrol is a S.A.M.E. compatible all hazards weather radio receiver it can also use the 1050hz tone but primarily will listen for a data header, alert type, location and duration

At the time it was the best scanner and add the GPS tracker you could listen to the local police on a long trip keeping ahead of a road block up wreck.

WOW - Great review - I have not seen one done this well before. I wish you did this one with the Sentinel going as well. One question - have you compared sensitivity of this to the bc536hp or others? I have heard some say they were dissapointed on range of reception. I have had a a BC536hp that I sold am going to re-buy one but wasn't crazy about all the work I had to do with the bc536hp - and like the idea of setting this up.

Great How to, very informative and helpful for new folk. I have a question about the registration advance part. My dad had bought that one and we've tried to type in the serial but kept getting an error. do you have to buy a seperate serial key or is the one on the back of it correct? We've tried different variations but only get the error.

I had a radioshack trunk tracker for 20 years and worked great. Upgraded to this model and can not pick up local police. tried everything I can, still nothing. I'm told they are only digital signal here. Getting ems and fire just fine. Can you advice?

Can you do a comparison with the HP-2 and the BCD-536HP and talk about what one does that the other does not? Aside, of course, from the WiFi option that only the 536 has. Primarily, why one would want the HP-2 over the 536 and vice versa. Pluses and Minuses of each.

Mark Lassman If I had to get only 1 of those 2, it would be the 536HP. Mainly because of the WiFi and form factor. The HP2 form factor can be a bit awkward at times. Unless you permanently mount it somewhere. Also the reception on the 536 seems to be slightly better especially on air band. Good luck.

savagemako17 I prefer the 436HP because it is so portable. And I really like the screen layout on the 436. They seem to perform about the same on all bands.

will this system pick up all trunking signals? like the swat team or special units of the police? not just general activity. I thought some trunking systems are secured with encryption and it can't be picked up??? thanks.

Rob T most are not only trucked, but also encrypted. One thing to keep in mind tho is city and county municipal channels can be and are used by covert teams at night, they will use channels that are busy during the day but quiet at night. So in a nutshell no, tough to pick up DEA SRT or SWAT etc for a reason, they spend big bucks on privacy 😂👊 ~E

Help...Have not been able to hear p-25 channels locally Fire & Sheriff...the unit picked up the group but no audio ...I have been over and over the set up...any ideas what is the problem ?? the system is Central Ga. Interoperable Regional p25 X2 -TDMA Macon Bibb Fire & Sheriff Depts.

The auto programming and color touch-screen are big pluses, (it seems like you need an engineering degree to program most P25 scanners)! However, I've heard that the older Whistler and Radio Shack P25 scanners are much more sensitive than the Uniden Home Patrol 2. Can anyone -- that has experience with both types of scanners -- please comment on this, (i.e., is the Home Patrol 2 much less sensitive than the older P25 scanners)? Thanks, in advance!

It will not charge and run on the same time if memory serves me correctly. But I have since sold this unit so I am not 100% sure. You can set up and program through the USB

Da bully so long as your agencies that you want to hear are not encrypted it will likely work. I recommend going to radioreference.com and finding your state in the forums and ask there. Someone will be able to tell you if this radio will work for you area. Yes, this is a great radio for a starter.

Thank you. It does a decent job on VHF Air. The 125AT is better in my observations at air band signals. I don't have a BCT15X to test against. But I had a BCT15 several years ago and it was a good air scanner.

Alan Waggoner Ya, I kind of would have thought he would have included that as informative as it was. Also, it says it will do TDMA. Im assuming that means DMR. That would have to be manually programmed for time slot, color code etc. especially with say a business or ham DMR because it most likely wont be in the database. Ive always wondered about these home patrol "automatic" scanmers and if U can mamually program them and HOW! That was the one and only part I had HOPED this review had. All tje other stuff is kind of irrelevant to me. Any scanner U cant program EVERYTHING manually is just a door stop. Im with the other guy. I want to program it myself. Guess I'll have to go research further.

Rob Fern Yes you can install it in your car. If you google Home Patrol scanner mount you should find some. Yes the database updates are ongoing. GPS is an accessory you would have to buy seperately. No it does not have calibration for the screen touch response. Hope that helps.

Great review , and this is all wonderful BUT.............. if your counties are using encrypted frequencies (like mine just switched to ) this thing isn't worth a hill of beans . I just bought this scanner and I am horrifically disappointed .

Exactly. This is why I won't buy another scanner. My police and most of the police around my zip code are mostly encrypted or are going to be in the near future. Only Air band and Emergency services seem to be still unencrypted. Very frustrating!

Have you checked the radio reference database? www.radioreference.com/apps/db/ I'm sorry but I don't know where that location is. If it is not in the US, you can click the drop down on the right of that link and select your country. Hope that helps.

+biblesnbarbells I think the 436HP is the better choice. Especially if you have DMR in your area. You can purchase the DMR upgrade for the 436HP and cannot for the HP. Also the portability of the 436 is a plus in my opinion.

Have you Updated to Firmware 2.0? I tried updating my HP-2 but it shows that the most current is already installed. Right now the unit shows that I have 1.05

Using Sentinel, update the firmware and if it is showing you have the most current version then there isn't a newer version available.

Help! Having lots of trouble with my BCD-396XT. My City site freq is 769.68750 when I put that In it won't pick up anything but It has a great signal.. My county site freq 853.81250 It picks up anything but I can barely get a signal at all and it cuts out. Does the band plan have to do with any of it? Maybe the base freq? If not please tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks.

If you pay for her phone, and have control of the account (essentially it needs to be YOUR phone that she uses), there are apps you can get to monitor text messages and even location via GPS. Not sure about listening to voice calls. Check your state for the legality of it, she is a legal adult.

I live in Arkansas. If the AWIN System is on Phase 2 does that mean that my county is too since they are on AWIN also? I thought that we were on the Phase 1 System and I have a BCD-396XT Scanner.

AWIN has not made the switch to Phase 2 yet. It is planned. Your county may or may not switch to phase 2. It is up to the agencies to decide. They will have to purchase new radio equipment if they switch and some counties may not have the money or want to spend the money to upgrade. ASP, AR Hwy Police, Game and Fish, etc will switch from what I hear. Supposed to start the switch near the end of this year from what I understand.

Those are not std AA batteries that are used in this unit, notice the voltage on them they are rechargeable batteries , not same .

Kevin Cote Did you change any settings? Also, you may want to update the database via the supplied computer software then connect the scanner and perform the update as their frequencies may have changed or something.

You don't need a computer to use this scanner. However there aren't any programming apps compatible with Mac at this time. I use boot camp on Mac and run Windows to program my scanners.

Yes it picks up P25 phase one and two, but does not decode encrypted transmissions. There is no way to do that.

I have problem with it accessing my sd card or reading it. New card and everything. Does it have to have software on the card? Or files on the card that isnt already on it. Congfused. And i have the software on my pc. But it cant see the sd card. And i have used several cards with same result? I get this error message:SD CARD FILE ERROR. mixxinmel I think the firmware and all is on the SD card. So if it isn’t formatted and has the software on the card it won’t work
