man, that is SWEET !!! I WILL TELL YOU those Unidens are super tough! I have owned approx 15 Unidens and never one failure or repair needed. IMO, ROCK SOLID!

The PC-122, 122-XL, and Realistic TRC-465 radios were built like little tanks that could withstand quite a bit of physical abuse, and still be spot-on-frequency, while having the most natural sounding transmit audio from a stock microphone - all in a small case. For what they were, these radio had no equal and I doubt there ever will be in the future. Nice video too! 👍

I had the non XL model in high school in the late 80’s. Solid radio. Used a Turner +2 when inside as a base station.

I did some research and went down the ole rabbit hole about this. " Mass Media concepts" can be paid, about 9$ to down or up vote youtube videos in the hundreds. to either boost or poor a station. it appears there is a channel out there, that someone feels upset with you. its been a huge lately with social media . you can register a report with youtube and request a confirmation that those are real votes and not "bots".. i am sure u probably already knew this, for those starter out there like me, its a good piece of info to know. , bottom line up front - some paid a company around 10$ to place random votes. confirm this by looking in ur stats the exact time the votes came in. the pattern can be notice after a few days.

@@Maine307 Thanks for the info. I suspected it was somehow automated as I sat there and watched the down votes go from 3 to 28 in about a 15 minute span. That has to be either a really motivated hater, or a loser that cheats to try and get ahead. I will report it to KZbin. Maybe they will lose their channel for cheating!

You did a series on handhelds awhile back that caught my eye (I own an old Realistic handheld from the 80s) so when I recently decided to get a small radio setup for my jeep, it was from your inspiration that encouraged me to take a slightly different path from most folks. I bought a nice modern handheld and a good mobile antenna, and let me say I couldn't be happier with the performance and convenience of my simple little setup.

I love these videos. Makes me know that CBers are still alive. Used to use one as a kid. I recently setup a base station at home then I think my Cobra 25 that I had for about 5 years went bad. So transmit power! Anyone out here fix CB radios??

I have one and expanded it years ago. works well, I also use a Pierce Simpson Cheetah 23 1973. I put the extras in to get to 40 channels and then just added all the of the extras. I still use this radio with an old original d-104. Some of the older solid-state radios have that old mellow tone. It talks all over.

Great old radio. I run a Uniden Washington as a base. My favorite radio. Ssb stability is just great. Cant remember the last time ive had to adjust my clarifier. I just got a new 980 hoping it has the stability of the old ones.

I have a Uniden pc122, pc244, pro 640e and pro 810e. On the original pc122 I bought back in '86 or '87 and had it modified for uppers only. The tech used the anl/nb switch for the uppers and set the anl/nb circuitry permanently on. I'm trying to locate the popular upper kit but have had no luck. Also, the receiver had such a quiet noise floor.

I'm on ssb 38 a lot here lately. It has really helped to increase our. C.b. range when the band gets noisy. Also I have met a few good people on ssb. Maybe we will catch you on the air sometime. 148 in Sheridan Arkansas. Take care and God bless

I got this radio as well, bone stock and surprised it still works. It was my "key down" rig when I used to harass truck drivers at the truck stop when I was a teenager, had this paired with a X-80 X-Force leeeneeer.

In Europe Uniden is marketed under President. Speaking of which, CB users in Hungary even in 2020 are commonly using Grant classics or teaberry Stalkers (most commonly Stalker IX es) because they are reliable. But i also hear a lot of people rocking amateur gear because there aren't many regulations (I personally have a ver. 2 Stalker IX). And there might be a mic gain control under the hood of that radio like the Stalker 73 DE 109HA622

I've got a brand new, never used PC-122XL complete in the box. The silly thing works great until it warms up. On LSB it clarifies at 12 o'clock. Over the course of ten minutes it drifts to the 1 o'clock position. 15 minutes later the 2 o'clock position. My voice is fine with people when radios cold. When warm it turns into a tin can.... ???

That's so cool! I just happen to have 2 expo 100 N kits by luck! I will do it all myself in the 122 and 244. I just don't like the mod for the clarifier in both radios. My former tech knew all the insulation and outs of those 2 radios.

You got your hands on a great old radio ! The stainless steel braided mic cord is on my wish list as well . I have the pc122 in the black face model. not the xl version. my dad got it for me around 1980. will never get rid of it. and the only cobra I can think of that has sideband is the Cobra 148 GTL. which i will get someday.

Next time why don't you try to do a video on the Uniden beartracker 885 CB scanner combination you'll be amazed on how that sucker works I have one and it works great because I can listen to CB traffic and scanner traffic at the same time and not miss a thing so whoever I talked to on the CB I'll still be able to hear scanner traffic in the background while talking

Hi there its raymond l am still using p c 122 great little radio but l dont think it is good as a uniden ax 144 sideband but still a great radio used with a five element beam or Quad but also it works well with a helical whip or nine ft whip
