Getting brave enough to to recap my President Washington two button... Your content has inspired confidence that I can do it. Ordered the capacitors from Klondike Mike's... I invested in a nice magnifying desk lamp kinda like the one on your bench. It was well worth it! A nice desoldering iron and a decent soldering station... I'd sure feel better if I had the Sam's book on it, though... 22 bucks plus shipping, I guess... Do you recommend a hard copy version or the download? Am I able to print off of the download? You can download the copy from Sams Photo-fact website. Glad to see you're interested in the hobby. It's always good to see more people wanting to learn electronics. You mentioned about buying the cap kit. I would test the caps in the radio 1st and make sure there bad before recapping the radio. Also, where you bought them from, and I mean NO disrespect but there's nothing special about them caps where you can't buy them anywhere. All caps will work the same. I have compared caps from several hundred different vendors and found them all to be good caps. Where most places get them such as where you bought them from are the same you can buy on EBAY or Amazon for a lot less. Many will argue over that, but the facts have been proven over and again for years and there's only so many manufactures who make them to begin with. Having said all of that, you should check them and see if there good or bad before wasting money on a cap kit. Keep in mind that the older caps in radios will outlast a lot of the new caps so many think they can recap a radio only to still find it didn't do anything for the radio etc. What is the actual problem with your radio, and I can guide you in the direction where you need to be to find the problem and save you headaches and money. What is the make and model of your radio and what is your radio doing or not doing as of this time, thanks!
