Hi! Is it possible to buy the access ultra, connect it to an electric strike on the INSIDE of a door and put a doorbell G4 Pro on the outside and get it working by using a card or fingerprint on the doorbell to trigger an unlock of the door via alarm manager? That should be a cheap option for one door if it works.
@waynenocton6 ай бұрын
I can’t help but want to make some way for the wires to be just the right length so if someone removes the unit, the wires that lead to the strike plate pull loose somewhere out of reach making it impossible to use them to open it from there. But honestly, it’s the appearance of security more than actual security, we want things to be locked up to the point that if someone gains access, they leave evidence of it. I mean so many secure rooms even with hardened doors have simple drywall right beside them, it’s super easy to knock a hole in two layers of drywall. Same with any house, how hard is it to break a window, the point is, you set the alarm off and make noise and there is always evidence of break in.
@GGCMXАй бұрын
Unifi needs a set of contacts on hubs and hub equipment for a basic contact sensor. It would help keep records of how long a door is open or left opened. Also, why would you put a request to exit button on an electric strike door? Turn the handle to leave? If the handle locked from the inside doesn't that go against fire codes?

I have a standard UA-Hub running with my garage door opener with a G2 reader on the outside wall (around £300 total, so yes a little more than the Ultra Reader). The garage door opener has a simple switch terminal connection that works perfectly with the DRY AUX connection on the UA-Hub and can now easily open the door with mobile tap!.. whereas the Ultra Reader seems to provide only 12V on the lock terminals.. if your garage door opener is anything like mine you could potentially fry the board if you put 12V across what maybe designed as a "switch" to close a normally open circuit. It's slightly annoying as the Ultra Reader is far cheaper a solution, but given you can pull the reader off the wall and either short the access terminals (or simply add 12V power to the cable going to the opener) it isn't really a good solution for external use.
@webluke5 ай бұрын
@@nrjonesy nice to see someone also had my idea. The 12VDC is my problem as I need a momentary switch, and the openers in the USA seem to use 24VAC. Does it have a terminal to land a door contact? Without a door open/close sensor and a sensor to confirm entry, it really is a 'keyless' entry system. I work in access control and am certified in a range of different products. There is big difference between keyless entry and true access control. The unifi gear intrigues me due to the breadth of options but it seems to be a game of does a lot but not enough to challenge the main players in any given area. That said, most small businesses and residential don't need more than they offer so there is clearly a market for it.

There are setting on pretty much all switches worth their weight to lock down ports. You can even lock down ports to specific Mac addresses which any good tech would do for permanent equipment
@jcnash02Ай бұрын
MAC filtering on that network port would prevent anything other than the reader working on the port. You should also put the readers on their own VLAN & make that VLAN isolated (not able to reach to other VLANs).

Low security is even an overstatement. A more or less cardboard door surrounded by drywalls, if I stumble and fall towards the door or the wall I’m in there anyway. An access device makes sense where you can’t poke holes in the wall or the door in half a second, but then, an access device which can be tampered with so easily has no benefit, nowhere. Nice gadget, yes but nothing more.

There are no foolproof security solutions. Any lock or obstacle is simply a matter of time before it can be defeated. If you have a need for a higher level of security, you must have 24/7 monitoring and many other layers. There are many low security environments that these would be completely appropriate.

The appearance of security is a strong deterrence. I’ve heard that in the ether.. but consideration for this all in one “kinda” product as cheap as its price, and still has a unique value to fit some door “I guess”…
