No need to untwist the pairs. You can use the plastic to slide the wire over while trying to retain as much of the twists as possible to termination.

Tip: make sure the cutting blade on the punch down tool is always on the outside of the keystone jack.

I made this mistake my first time using keystone jacks. Luckily it was an easy fix.

That particular low voltage box (Carlon) has four small holes near each inside corner... that allow you to mark the corners on the wall of your cut line and get your layout lines for what to cut out the sheet rock very accurately. Just FYI

Just so you know those orange wall plate brackets have 4 little holes at each corner, if you take a pen and draw a point on the wall at each corner and then line up the point you have a the perfect hole.

5:53 Why such a big hole for one cable? That leaves a pathway for G-forbid fire. Again, as stated, the key is to check local codes. They are pretty tight where I'm at in the US. Metal conduit is still a thing for AC power. I've always used fire block sealant around any penetrations through fire blocks or top plates.

Always punch down against a stable surface. Those plastic bits snap off very easily. Otherwise, great video.

Very informative. How about audio HI-FI cables? Can those be run together with CAT6? Will there be noise interference in either of them?

You should mention any holes in the top plate leading to the attic should be air/fire blocked otherwise warm moist air will enter the attic and cause mole and rot. As others have noted, consult the local building codes. I like great stuff expanding foam for this purpose.

Question for you. I just moved into a house that had the power and network cable coming down from the attic together. I notice the electrical wire is wrapped in a purple shield wrap. Would that be okay to still run it together? The reason why I'm asking is beacuse it's only one hole they ran all the cables threw. This house came pre-wire with cat5 and I'm upgrading to Cat6E

Anyone know what kind of J-Hooks he is using in the video? I like the one screw install and angle bending he’s able to do to level the tray/bottom

What tips do you have to plan runs through walls with fire blocks? I live in a townhome and I have done some runs but drilling holes in my upstairs ceiling. I need to come down the walls for my downstairs but I don't know a way to plan a route with the least amount of obstructions without x-ray vision.

Most of the time when you run into this, if it's wood, is to get a long drill bit and drill through the blocking

Do NOT hold the keystone in your hand and punch down, unless you like to leave your blood on the jobsite. Punch down on a solid surface. He even had the block for holding the keystone and didn't use it. We you put the faceplate with the keystone in the wall, have the wires on the top side... it helps to protect them from dirt.

Had an electrician run wires for me in my new home that is under construction. The horror when I saw they run all the wires and didn't use a single j hook. Instead stapling all of them in sets of 2 every other board. The nightmare that will be upon me when I decide to replace my runs in the future will probably end my life and my pocket book because I am definitely going to have to pay someone to do it for me... Bad back and all.

I have had so many network cables that have had to go near electrical cable. It's been absolutely fine... Just laid across rafters in the loft out of the way has always worked for me. All these extra hooks just aren't necessary
