Honestly, this pricing is a bit better. However, I think that UI should keep the pricing this way permanently, and I still think they should let users swap the SIM card for something else.

I wish they would make a multi-carrier version... Or at least allow us to put it on existing AT&T business accounts.

The device definitely has promise, and it fills a niche with an easy-to-use solution, but even at $5/GB it's still not a 'business' solution. I get it, Ubiquiti (and likely AT&T) doesn't want people to use this as their primary source of internet access. But modern businesses do a lot more than just get and send email. This might be a decent solution for a small two or three desktop shop where they only care about their point of sale terminals, VoIP, and email, but even that's assuming they don't allow their employees to put their own devices on WiFi and no one decides to watch a movie during an emergency situation where they are still at work. Anything bigger, like the medium-large or enterprise audience Ubiquiti is (at-least claims to be) trying to go after, and this device is crippled by the fact that it cannot be added to an existing business wireless plan. And home usage? Forget about it. Until it can be tied to an existing plan, offers an unlimited plan, or offers a SIM card or programmable multi-carrier SIM, it's little more than a cool paperweight or an ultra-niche solution. Even an "it's better than nothing" scenario falls flat in the face of most people walking around with (phones capable of) unlimited hotspots in their pockets these days. Love the videos, Willie, and I love Ubiquiti products! But this one, the way it has been executed, just doesn't seem to make much sense.

Exactly. While I await this to be available in Canada, I won't be using it until it is unlocked from a specific vendor. Customers may already have packages with a vendor and this may just be another device on that package. Many times those negotiated deals will have better data prices than the current Ubiquiti rates and this device should be able to piggyback on the existing corporate plan.

Eh, the device pricing is still off. I can get a similar solution to this by doing a fail-over WAN-port with any kind of LTE-Router behind it. And that's for a fraction of the cost with a much faster LTE-modem (which is kind of important, considering that the maximum data rates are rarely what you get out of a mobile connection, and more modern modems help a lot in that regard).

Is it still a Dream Machine Pro device only? Could have really used this after Hurricane Sally took out my internet for 2 weeks, but only use Edge router and switch. I run a server for Unifi to manage my Access Points.... thats a shame to cut out the Edge users.

I cannot find the UDM Pro - Unifi LTE Video on your channel. I am in Europe and intend to purchase this. But, I must admit it´s pretty thin on KZbin about this product.

Question: Is the AT&T billing done via UniFi or do we have to sign up for an account directly with AT&T?

Great video Willie, I love the channel. I used this device in an airplane hangar to enable remote engine preheat. you dont need a lot of data to turn an outlet on and off. It's ease of install was nice as I had all the other unifi gear. But it's not perfect. When the wife heard there was wifi in the hangar she thought she could stream netflix while I preflighted. It's not intended for that but it does it's intended job well. I was just about to update that video with another using a Verizon cell modem, 1) to offer choice of carrier and 2) for pricing. I will be sure to mention the updated pricing when I record. This makes is more competitive if you have AT&T signal (and don't hate the company). Thanks again for the video.

Willie did a KZbin on the Draytek 2960 some time back. Has a LTE USB tether port, and I am using Total Wireless (Verizon) with 100Gig for $100 per month. (the plan is actually 4 phones, but the 100 gig is shared into 1 phone/tether). If you need data, perhaps this is the way.

Five dollars per GB or five dollar signs per GB?

I can get a data sim from my carrier for only 5 bucks extra per month that uses the same data pool as my cellphone, which happens to be unlimited. So this just seems like its not even trying to be competitive. I've hacked together my own solution for this for less than half the cost of the UniFi LTE and it works well.

They need to make this unlocked so you can use what ever provider you want. Since some areas have bad service with certain providers

Is there a way to configure restriction of video streaming from certain services and OS upgrades when this kicks in? MacOS/IOS/WindowsUpdate and Netflix/Amazon Prime are big data hogs and i don't want someone accidentally triggering those when i'm on my short term (minutes or hours) backup LTE connection.
@tillmannfischer4 жыл бұрын
You can do that through the firewall. It'll be quite the rule-set though and it will only catch the services you specify, unless you go the other way around an basically white-list the domains that can get through over the failover connection.

You're talking about multiple persons here. Forget it, three gigabytes is nothing in that regard. You'll reach the data cap in a matter of minutes, and then you'll have the still ridiculous costs for what will then become a useless piece of plastic. If Ubiquiti will release this without a carrier lock, it may become an option (especially considering non-US sales). Otherwise, it's vastly overpriced, even with the lower subscription cost.

@@tillmannfischer Exactly. My household's monthly bandwidth utilization (just me, my wife and my 6 yo daughter) averages at 500GB. Imagine having an outage and being forced to use this UI/ATT plan for a month? $2500 bill right there :D
