Really good review, I did the Ubiquiti plunge after watching your three part videos. I went with the all in one dream machine and added a switch and three in wall AP. It’s been an amazing experience. The amount of functionality and control that UniFi provides is incredible. My only hitch were my Shellys running the stock firmware. I couldn’t get them to play well on my IoT VLAN. So when the OTA Firmware became available, I migrated them all to Tasmota and now they are on my NoT VLAN and working better than ever.

I had the same initial problem with the setup. I agree that it seemed more to do with the blutooth. Restarted the process once more and it worked just fine.
@Kushari4 жыл бұрын
Hi, the issue with the internet detection is most probably due to the cable modem. You need to powercycle the modem after the new device (in this case the dream machine pro) has been plugged into it. The ISP modems always remember the last MAC address that was plugged into them, and if it doesn't match, it doesn't give out internet. Here in Canada we had some in Quebec that also have a built in battery that you need to take out as unplugging it wouldn't turn it off (switched to battery). That's because the ISP also offered home phone over the cable line, so if the electricity goes out, you could still use the home phone.

One of the things to remember on the IPS/IDS Portion is that the majority of these are aimed at the PRO/Commercial Realm where they do have a lot of inbound Rules allowing scans, etc. So the IPS/IDS is reporting that you are being scanned, for a Normal Home network not an issue. Just upgraded from a UDM (base) to a UDM Pro. I haven't had any issues, the migration was smooth and quick. I set it up with my phone, with the WAN port plugged into the UDM (base). After a quick firmware update, I opened the web interface from my laptop (ethernet) and restored a backup from the UDM (base) onto the new UDMP. After bootup, I unplugged everything from the UDM (base) and plugged it into the UDMP. Everything was fine, and it was done faster than the streaming buffer of Amazon Music on an Echo Dot (so no music was interrupted in the process, family was happy lol) The primary reason for upgrading was due to the dual WAN, but having 10GB SFP+ interfaces is nice for future proofing, and the 3500Mbps is much higher than the 850Mbps for IPS throughput. Not to mention the 4 extra ports.

had Unifi for about 2 years now, Incredible, best ever had. I used to use Cisco Meraki but sick of paying annual fees and if lose connection to their cloud, you are screwed. I just purchased a DreamMachine to replace my existing UCS-PRO-4. Really had Zero reason to do this, the UCS-Pro-4 was solid as a rock. I was running IDS/IPS so the new speed features of IPS would be helpful. The first attempt to add the dream machine was a disaster, just like this video show, plus few more issues. Finally had the patience to do it again and worked. Just make sure your old cloud key is EXACT EXACT EXACT version of the latest firmware loaded to the dream machine. Even a minor version difference matters. I had the issue of when the setup of the dream machine was done it loaded xxxx.30 and my cloud was xxxx.32 so had to manually update the dream machine to get them equal. Why the dream machine during setup didn't load the latest is beyond me. Unifi should make this migration process easier. With the dream machine you are not only migrating over your cloud key, but your firewall. I also had an issue connecting to the internet, but i have a static IP and had to manually set that to be the dream machine WAN interface or would not work. also, whatever do, if you follow these instructions from unifi help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/360008976393-UniFi-How-to-Migrate-from-Cloud-Key-to-Cloud-Key-or-UDM don't wipe out your old cloud key, it might be the only way to go back to a working network. After my initial dream machine install failed, i went back to cloud key and all worked after like before. If would have wiped it, then would have needed to restore that device also. Only wipe it out when you think your migration is 100% done.

"Luckily I got to experience ALL those problems, and a few more..." Thank you for your sacrifice. I am about 2 months way from an entirely new UniFi network setup and now I'm wondering whether I should take a chance on this thing or get the older separate components.

If you don't own anything yet, I think the UDM-Pro is still the right choice.

I just installed a UDM Pro last weekend. I used my desktop PC to do the setup and everything went well. None of the problems shown above. I have seen others complain about issues when setting up on the phone app, that's why I avoided it. I'm quite happy so far at one week in.

Well I wound up getting a UDM-Pro for my all-new UniFi setup at my new house, and I set it up with my phone (didn't have a PC handy yet). Everything went perfectly other than one reboot I did for it to pick up a new IP after I activated pass-through mode on my Comcast modem. Very convenient to have the phone app to do the setup in my situation.

That's interesting did you just connect a ethernet cable from desktop to any port on UDM Pro? and just ping the IP the UDM Pro address to start the setup process?

I've had the UDM-Pro since February. There have been more issues with this device compared to when I was using a cloud key. Devices don't de-auth on wireless and get assigned to the trunk port. The app doesn't connect while remote. The it gets locked up usually and I need to reboot it and 1 of 10 times I have to reset it... I want to love this thing but I'm having a hard time. On the flip side, I asked my brother to get the original UDM and he can only say nice things about it. He has no issues at all. The one reason I would give myself to switch back to my pfsense firewall would be for the advance firewall rule configuration, that's something unifi is not so great with.

I have the UDM-pro and I've had the trouble booting message show up one time when I lost power. In my case all I did was cycle power again and it booted with no issue. With all of the problems people are saying they have I am just glad I must have gotten lucky with mine.

I didn't have any issues with my UDMP besides some stats being wrong on the client analytics but that has since been fixed.

Do you use your UDM Pro for NVR, and if yes, can it be hooked on a different POE cams or it has to be Unifi cams. Thank you so much, and keep the good work.
@Anaesthetist983 жыл бұрын
How can the UDM know that the firewall rules on your server block the connections? It can only know whether its allowed by your Unifi firewall rules, so as far as it is aware the connection is allowed.

@@TheHookUp We're going to set up a new network in a new house latest next summer and we're almost decided on Uniquiti. Would you say the UDM Pro would be worth it for new installation and what else would be needed on top? Maybe you can do a follow-up when you get the time and new UDM?

I am planning on buying the UDM (not pro), already have one access point and the 16 Poe switch (got it at half price), have a 2 floor house the only problem I see if the AP will cover the upper floor were I plan on put it and hopping the DM will be enough for the first floor

IPS is a IDS but blocks threats. Someone might be trying to attack those devices and on that specific port. It's probably just letting you know.

it looks like deployment procedure should be printed and in the box. 😀 Mine looked exactly the same as yours.

Frequently hangs on BlueJeans and Webex calls even when hardwired and with basically every feature disabled. Wiring around UDMP to the ATT fixes the issue! Didn’t have this with USG. Have had two hangs in middle of the day requiring a restart. On restart bing on boot and required a power cycle. Had similar issue at initial setup but not as severe. The video conferencing issue is a major deal breaker in recommending the UDMP.

This is a great review. It was straight to the point, and I liked that. I tried the UDMP when it came out, and there were so many bugs I had to get rid of it. Skype for business just straight up dropped connection for both me and my wife for weeks. Ultimately I dump the UDMP for pfSense and magically everything started working. The UDMP turned me from a UBNT fanboy to a bitter detractor from the lineup. I hope change my mind at some point.

After one year, is the new firmware make the whole process a lot better? I have dual wan and my own wifi router that I like to use. Will the udm-pro work nice with them. I also has a qnap and synlogy nas as well as a raspberry pi. Right now, it is working very nicely with a Cisco small business router.

Def agree. Mine works well now that I finally got it up and running. However my SFP port has stopped working and now I am using a regular network cable to link up my switch :(

I use a dual wan setup for failover. I have 10g and 1g fiber to the home. The SFP+ (WAN2) supports the 10 g and WAN the 1g. Running version 1.7.2 allows WAN 2 as primary and WAN as failover. It takes a bit of turning off the interfaces and reselecting them again in the right order to get it setup but it works fine now.
@rogerjones99844 жыл бұрын
@@fishermansnook3415 Is there guide any where on how to do this? I have (sort of) the opposite problem to you - My backup WAN is a 50 Mbs VDSL line and its Modem only supports Fast Ethernet - the WAN2 port won't support anything below 1G ethernet, so I currently have to run it via a 1G switch. Being able to reverse the WAN connections would solve the issue since the RJ45 WAN port can connect to Fast Ethernet

Not sure if I was lucky but I didn't run into a single issue setting mine up. I did the same research as you and prepared for it. The only thing I did different was not use the app. I'm also wondered if its the app/bt causing most of the issues? Also why could you not just connect your pc to your modem and download the firmware?

I'm new to UniFi network ( still yet to buy anything ) . My end game here is to have Camera system and wireless access points. Read somewhere the DMP doesn't have PoE so would I need a network cable from the DMP to a PoE Switch then have all my devices ( Cameras / Wireless ap ) plug into the Switch.

Thanks for the video Rob, I was in exactly the same position as you almost 2 weeks ago! My USG3 kept falling over due to the Threat Management side, so I had to have that disabled. With that in mind I decided to send back my USG3 and Cloud Key Gen2, and replace them with a UDM Pro. I had the same problem with it not detecting the internet, however that seemed to fix itself after 20 minutes of trying. Then I had a different experience than you with the backup/restore saga. My Cloud Key Gen 2 was up to date and so was the UDM Pro, however I kept getting the error saying the versions were incorrect when trying to restore. I ended up forgetting the backup and after the UDM Pro was set-up I manually added all the stuff again! So I think in all I probably spent about 4 hours of pain until the system looked the same as my USG3. Mind you I have IPS running and only about 20% Utilisation on the UDM Pro, so I will mark that up as a win. Whether theres going to be problems down the line, i'm expecting them, however hopefully the pro's will out shine the cons!

Hi, can you please explain the backplane? I read that it's only 1Gbps, but I I don't understand how that's possible if the the SFP can do 10Gbps and the IDS can do 3.5Gbps.
