Unifi Poller - Awesome Dashboard for Unifi equipment

My first Docker experience a few weeks ago took me 6 hours to get some containers to all work together and share data. Now that I have some experience and ensuring I don't step on any existing ports, map the right data paths, this came together in < 10 minutes by following the guide. I was very happy with the results! Now I can be on Zoom and my background can have a nice geeky dashboard rotation of my network, but not readable by the zoom audience either.

​@@bsavag3_ Not very familiar with unraid, but I don't see any issues getting this working if docker is installed on your system. I have gotten this working on Synology (a linux system) and a Ubuntu server with no issues.

So, I figured I would try this. Unfortunately the docker-compose throws lots of permission denied errors because it is trying to write to /var/lib/grafana/plugins to where it has no privilege.

Well, I finally got this working. In the last year a lot has changed about this. I got it up and running the log says that it can see my UDM Pro and it is connected. The log lists no devices and no clients. I am going to assume it will take a couple days to propagate.

Can you see real time connections for a specific device? For example, I want to see what external servers PC-1 was connected to while playing a specific game. Or am I going to have to do some port mirroring with Wireshark?

Poller collects and stors historic stats. This is not for real time data analysis.

This a great tool and your details were instrumental, especially when you call out not using :8443 in the config to the UDM Pro. I used Peak Hour 4 in the past to measure my Internet in/out due to being on a very restrictive Internet option (satellite). The tool I used with my USG, Peak Hour, used SNMP and you know the rest of the story for the UDM Pro. With Unifi Poller I'm trying to find an equivalent. In the USG Insight dashboard there is a 1 hour measurement. Is that value configurable or somewhere else in a dashboard? Having a picker to select a specific date would be ideal since my data pool resets on the 18th of the month. Or if you know some other tool it would be appreciated. Thanks for the great setup video.

Nothing you'd notice. It just does some normal API calls like your browser does while browsing the controller interface.

Great tutorial. Question for you though. Do you see alot of value in the Poller information vs the UDM/Pro dashboard? I mean, it provides traffic stats, client info, etc already.

I do as you can add multiple sites. This will have stats all in one place. Also it’s just cool 😎

Definitely recommend setting up and checking it out yourself. Some folks are good with the default data, and many more folks enjoy having their data in a time series database.

Where does the poller pull client names from? Does it always use MAC addresses or can you customize the client names?

Good question. I believe it would be the MAC address unless you specify them in your unifi controller under the clients. Where you can give them an alias

Not really. This is for metrics, and log data doesn't fit very well. That said, future versions will probably allow storing that data in Loki.

I’m sure you could yup. They use differnt port numbers to get to the GUI. I can give it a try out later. You may want to run this deticated though as it will be using a bunch of SD card space

@@MactelecomNetworks Good to know, might try it on my UDM-Pro, would be intriguing how its gathering all the info, as i have my UDM-Pro set for jumbo-frames, and even shows in the provisioning, but never works, likely due to their crud scripts, usually have to set it up manually

I see why you skipped right to the successful install. So many problems just getting docker installed and everything else. You didn't want to turn this channel into a linux how to. I love Linux, I really do but the reason why windows is so successful on the end user side is because they make things so much easier. Linux can be a PITA most times when installing apps.
