Unifi Protect - UVC G4 Bullet - Full Install and Unboxing of G4 camera including setup Protect App

Welcome to my overview of the Unifi UVC G4 Bullet, this video is a complete how-to showing the unboxing and install of the Unfi G4 Bullet camera. I start by unboxing the Unifi UVC G4 camera then move onto installing the camera on the Unifi protect system hardware so you can use the G4 in your CCTV protect software system. I then show how to install and externally mount the camera to a soffit and finally show the Unifi UVC G4 bullet camera view in the Unifi Protect system by viewing through the Unifi Cloud Key Gen 2 Plus in a Google Browser.

Hi, as I was struggling to find out how to get the camera weatherproof installed... you most probably did not install the cable gland correctly since you pushed it all the way back out of the shaft while assembling it. You need to plug the connector into the cam, then fully assemble the shaft, then push the cable gland all the way into the shaft to seal it and then screw it on the base already mounted to the ceiling/wall. Only this will ensure a weatherproof installation.

Thanks Micheal - Yes I would almost certainly install either a Cloud Key Gen 2 or maybe a UDM (dream machine).

How many meters is the maximum cable length from the POE adapter to the camera?

100 meters is the usual default for POE

what would happen if I mount all the cameras first and then set them up through protect? I already mounted 3 to my house but did not set then up yet. I was planning on mounting them all first and them setting them all up at the end.

Hey - Yes you need the cloud key with the built in HDD (or dream machine) a Poe switch (or normal switch and use a Poe injector) and the camera.

What are you plugging the cameras in to and what other hardware is required ? What are you using for DVR space, a computer, internet ?

You need the whole Ubiquiti product line to run these things, just get a Hikvision system.

Great install info! I’m about to go all in on Unifi network of AP’s and cameras. Have you installed a G4 higher than in this video? I’m concerned that mounting on the soffit of a two storey house may be too high?

I have yes and they are ideal for higher up. The Unifi G4 has quite a narrow field of view (if memory serves me right I think 86 deg) so the higher up it is the more you will get in the picture.

Yes - Its better than the Unifi g3 flex, with the G4s you also get the smart detection

Dont do it. This company has a tendency to drop products and stop supporting. You will be forced to buy new gear a few years down the road. Been there and no more UBNT for me...

2 years ago I bought G3 as that's all they had. Didn't get to using them and now they are considered as EOL and cannot be used. You will probably have the same problem a few years down the road with G4. Why not make these compatible with open source NVR? I spent too much money on G3 cameras and now pissed. WTF Ubiquity?
