I have one and love it. Just wish they would revise it and have all 8 ports in a line. I'd probably buy another one if they did.

All 8 ports in one line would make moving/changing modules much easier. Other than that it is still great. I have one too.

Works really well since 2 years, i don’t recommend to use ethernet module adapters though, they heat up very quickly.

I think it is supposed to do that, I've been using it for years with adapters and it has worked flawlessly

I use it for 10G Nas. 10G computer, 10G unvr, as well as a bunch of 1G switches. Works well!

pretty much similar for me. got it for 10G Synology, Mac Studio, and 10G promos box running truenas

I have one between my UDM-SE and my US-8-150 and USW-Enterprise-8-PoE. And I have one at a customer with a MikroTik router and seven MikroTik switches. (MikroTik equivalent wasn't available for a long time, so that is why). They work great!

Replying to my own post....when I say set it up, I mean the best way to wire it up from the internet to the Dream Machine SE to the NAS and switch powering items on the LAN. such as cameras, etc.

I bought mine as a switch for my old dell servers (super old but still 10g) and my small unifi network. So far the only issue i ever had was running dual 10g (aggregate) to my 24port unifi switch. Strange issues after power outages. Other than that.... this swich is almosy cheaper than most 10g nics

I have 1 - 10gbit DAC cable from aggregation switch to supermicro server. I have 1 - 10Gtek sfp+ to rj45 in the Aggregation switch to my 2.5gbit Ethernet on my pc and these are the speeds I get is only 2.5gbit one way

Why only 4 10g Ethernet devices? Why would that be any different?

Great question…I’m not entirely sure why they have that limitation, but that’s what’s in the data sheet.

@@CrosstalkSolutions could be power consumption? Each SFP+ to RJ45 adapter could use up to 1.9W, the built-in power supply is only 36W with a power limit of 30W. how much wattage does it consume without the rj45 adaptors?

It’s power and heat related…. Ethernet sfp modules need a lot of power and will overwhelm the power supply on the switch. You can use it with 8 fiber sfp 8 dac sfp or 4 Ethernet or less and the remaining with either of the fiber or dac

@@TheRealJamesWu The RJ45 10Gbps SFP+'s all draw the full 3W of the SFP+ port. Whereas DAC cables draw a fraction of a Watt and unless you are using ER/XR optics you are 1-1.5W. I doubt many people are using ER/XR optics with these, however.

Presumably the former, but I don't know for sure. The limit when using 10GBASE-T transceivers is presumably due to the extra heat and power draw generated by those.

Check Mikrotik CRS310, 4 x 10Gbps + 5 x 1Gbps for U$200. Disadvantage of its configuration complexity
