For anyone considering deploying this as an extender....don't. Any U6 AP can be setup in mesh mode for far cheaper than this. All you need to do is buy a POE Injector and supply power to the access point. You don't need to hardwire it to Mesh. At full price you can get a U6 Pro, and even an 8$ Ubiquiti brand POE Injector and save 12$ and get the benefit of potentially running it as its own AP rather than a mesh.

Hi, do you know if the mesh unit must be connected via cable or can it connect via wifi and basically just enhance the wifi signal? In other words - must i connect this unit via ethernet cable to a switch or not?

So summary is you got better wireless performance with the mesh over the access point? I was looking at replacing my old google mesh with the unifi dream router and then getting an AP but I’m guessing I’d be better off with the mesh instead?

I'm considering adding one of these to go with original Dream Machine. Not the pro. Just to boost coverage in and around the home. Stick it in the kitchen area which is basically the centre of the house. It won't be hard wired back to the Dream Machine. Does this sound like a good idea?

You'll have to wire it back to the Dream Machine for it to work. From what it sounds like you want to do I'd look at the UniFi6 Extender. That's sounds like something that will do what you're looking to do.

@@TomasVillegas Thanks. Sadly we don't get that Extender product here in Australia. From other research the Unifi6 Mesh really ought to be able to do a wireless link. Even though hard wired will always be best of course. It's not impossible to run cable there. Will give it some thought.

Can I plug this into my amplify router to extend my existing mesh into the garden on the same SSID?

I was also wondering if anyone has experienced what kind of range we can get outdoors (assuming no obstacles like trees etc)
