Great video. Do you think it would be possible to mount this unit on the same pole as the TV antenna just to save having to install a second pole on the roof?
@LarsKlintTech4 ай бұрын
Thanks Jase, and thanks for watching. Yes, you can use the same pole I would think. Tv signals should not interfere with Wifi.

Thanks for the video! Question for you about the exposed placement. This AP doesn't have an IP rating, even though Ubiquiti calls it an outdoor AP (and provides pole mount even). How has it held up to the rain?
@LarsKlintTech Жыл бұрын
Good question Scott. To be honest, I haven't thought about this particular AP, because I haven't had any outages, errors or mishaps with it. It just seems to keep working. My main worry has been using the non-outdoor rated CAT6 cable to install it 😂 In short, it is working a treat.

Hey been trying to figure out which antenna to buy I want to go with the pro mesh that u showing but still thinking about the unifi6 LR because it more updated but what am looking for is a access point outdoor longrange that can pick up wireless signals from a far distance some help please
@LarsKlintTech2 жыл бұрын
I think the main question is whether you are mounting it inside or outside? If outside, I would go with the UAP-AC-M-PRO, as it is powerful and works well. Not a ton of devices have Wifi6 yet, and even less can use the throughput. If you want an outdoor Wifi6 AP, consider the Unifi6 Mesh. If inside installation, then definitely go with the Unifi 6 LR, which will also work outside though.

Hello Lars...great video. Looking to do the same thing. Just curious if you've done any speed tests with this AP. Like what your currently paying for and if you're getting the maximum bandwidth and if it's consistent based on your desired coverage? Thank you.
@LarsKlintTech2 жыл бұрын
I haven't done any specific speed tests for this AP. I did for the Wifi6 LR one in another video though. I can't see why I wouldn't get full speed though. Have you seen otherwise? And if so, is it an interference/installation/location issue?
@biggig85482 жыл бұрын
@@LarsKlintTech Hey Lars I too haven't had a chance to test anything because I haven't purchased anything yet. I was reaching out to get some feedback from different individuals to see which direction I'd like to go but I think I'm gonna go the Wifi6 route. This customer has a very small family and not a lot of devices but as you know it's good to plan ahead and have it scaled to sustain a lot more devices when you need it. The purpose of this install was not only to add audio to this pool extension but also wifi coverage so he can invite family and friends and be able to connect to his wifi once its set up. Thanks :)
@LarsKlintTech2 жыл бұрын
@@biggig8548 No worries. Glad you got a bit more clarity. Wifi 6 is mainly for higher speeds I'd say, as more and more devices can use it, so that make sense.

Hi is this unit can use in indoor? or Outdoor Only? (Hoping for Answer)

It can work both indoor and outdoors. Inside you will get more interference from other devices and walls (like any other indoor AP), but it will work just fine.

can i pair this with non ubiquiti network switch, like tplink?
@LarsKlintTech9 ай бұрын
Yes you can. You won't have access to a range of features which normally comes with the network controller (on for example the UDM SE), but you can use the mobile Unifi Network app to manage certain things.

Can I plug one of these into the back of my wifi router to extend my signal? Or do I have to have programing software?
@LarsKlintTech2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. Great question. With all likelihood, no. Let me explain. The Unifi network is a mesh network. Common to all mesh networks is that you have a single Wifi name (my Wifi is called "The Lars Frontier"), that is shared amongst all the access points. An access point, or AP, is a node for your Wifi. On my farm I have about 15 APs, which means I have the same Wifi network everywhere. In order for this to work, you need a central "brain" or controller, which in my case is the Unifi Dream Machine Pro, UDM-PRO. This devices manages all the traffic on the network and makes sure that each device, such as your phone or laptop, can see this single network and use it. For that reason, it is unlikely you can get the Unifi UAP-AC-M-PRO to work with anything else than a Unifi network controller. Not knowing which wifi router you have, I can't say for sure though. I hope that helps.

@@LarsKlintTech this is the same answer I was looking for. I’m looking for the similar solution for a kale farm, looking to cover approx 1,000 ft in a straight line of sight. What you’re saying is that if I plug this MeshPro directly into my modem, it will not work unless I have the “DreamMachine” switch controller?
@LarsKlintTech2 жыл бұрын
@@SinisterAudio Yes, correct. While the hardware will send "something" out, the signal needs to be managed so that traffic can run to and from your device. This is what the UDM-PRO (and other devices) do.

@@LarsKlintTech I’m seeing other comments online saying once I have a laptop to configure the software part just for the setup. I can use this seemlessly after?
@LarsKlintTech2 жыл бұрын
@@SinisterAudio Yes, you need to have a Unifi controller, which you can self host, or use in a device such as the UDM-Pro. You set up the access point in the controller, and then it works seamlessly after that.

Can you use an ac pro on a non Ubiquiti switch?
@LarsKlintTech2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I believe you can. I haven't tried it myself, but it should work if you have the Unifi controller software somewhere on the network. The controller makes it possible to adopt the AP into the network.

Lar's you also mention that Unifi send you equipment , do you have to give it back?? and how does one get Unifi to send you equipment ? is it because you are basically doing a video review of their product? Next time you are talking to these peeps can you ask them to setup a Aussie Unifi shop like they do in the states.... because buying from Amazon is ok but they hardly have stock of what the USA has.
@LarsKlintTech2 жыл бұрын
Good question. I don't have to give it back, as it is a win-win. I talk a lot about it, and they get equipment into, sometimes, good use cases that isn't always in a suburban house or office. In regards to an Aussie shop, stay tuned....
@paulbaird37542 жыл бұрын
Lar's great video as always I do enjoy your content for a Aussie :) but why are you knocking Australian build quality?? when was your farm house built? Maybe that why there is daylight coming though your roof space... also bush people call that air flow :)
@LarsKlintTech2 жыл бұрын
Australian houses, even new ones, are mostly built cheap. Real cheap. No insulation, single layer of glass, laminate cupboards etc. Not always, but often. This means we use way more energy to heat and cool, it is less comfortable to live in, noisier, and things break more often. It seems to be a cultural thing, as economies of scale would suggest we could build good quality houses for the same money if the desire was there. And yes, we have a lot of "air flow" 😂

Hello, I have one in my garden because the person who lived in my house before left it there. I got it connected to my internet but it is a seperate network (with the name he choose). Is there a way i can reset it and add it to my network?
@LarsKlintTech2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom. You can reset the AP using the reset button between the two ports: dl.ubnt.com/qsg/UAP-AC-M-PRO/UAP-AC-M-PRO_EN.html If you have a Unifi controller, then it is simple to add it like in this video. If you don't have a Unifi controller, it could be tricky. Not sure if it will work.
