Review software was Alpha, but should be in Early Release at time of product unveiling, I will update this post as Firmware goes from Alpha>EA>Full Release. This is needed for full hot swap failover.

Here is the thing. Unifi needs to allow IPS/IDS on some VLANS only. VLAN Office -> Internet IPS/IDS enables VLAN DMZ -> Internet IPS/IDS disabled VLAN DMZ -> VLAN SERVICE Internal traffic IPS/IDS disabled VLAN SERVICE -> VLAN DATABASE Internet traffic IPS/IDS disabled This would allow for 10Gb internet connectivity for the servers but enforce IPS/IDS for the users.

Hello. how are you? I have a question regarding this device versus a USG Pro 4. In the USG Pro 4, LAN ports 1 and 2 are independent ports, and I can configure an independent segment for each of them (each one on VLAN 1). Is this possible with this new line of devices? I purchased a UCG Ultra, and it cannot do this. The UniFiOS only allows creating VLANs, meaning it only has one network on VLAN 1 for the whole device. Which device would allow me to do everything I need? Thanks. Best regards.
@kristopherleslie8343Ай бұрын
Normally you would separate the traffic with vlans preferably on the switch, but I think people still don't like how UBNT handles L3. So yea you basically can do it all from the router itself but know its a slight performance hit.
@kristopherleslie8343Ай бұрын
I'd keep the UBNT devices on VLAN1 for management (guess that's best practice, not 100% sure, but makes auto detection a breeze) and then put everything else on different vlans.
@brianswails727619 күн бұрын
With this device. Would i also need a UNVR? I plan on adding 8 4K cameras from UniFi via the 48 port enterprise switch but I don’t want my UDM pro max to hit any issues with the overall quality of my network because it would be doing more work

Can you run shadow mode with a UDMPMax as the main device with the slave being a regular UDMP? Also, wish they had upgraded the CPU to handle true 10 gbps IDP/IDS.
@DPCTechnology8 ай бұрын
You cannot but you will be able to run two udms or two udmse .. when they all get 4.0 u will be able to do it to any 2 similar units.

We have some UDM-Pro's out there at clients who like them and this does seem a decent jump for the larger clients we deal with, the new HA mode seems really nice and looks like it will be nicer than the sonicwalls I am dealing with and the lack there of stateful HA due to no license for it...

Oooops, WAN speeds mixed up Clay. The SE was able to 2.5Gbps on WAN-1 (Port 9) and 1Gbps on WAN2 (Port 8). The UDM Pro was same but just 1Gbps on ports 8 and 9. Swapping drives with Protect might see the other drives swapped in wiped and formatted. Good to see they finally getting serious again. I checked out the calculator, claims to handle up to 150 WAP's so double the UDM-Pro and SE. Still was hoping for bigger CPU though.

Good stuff, thanks for posting!
@kristopherleslie8343Ай бұрын
it's slightly bigger but I agree would like just a notch more power so we can have more security features running 24/7
@sfi_consulting56668 ай бұрын
I was hoping that it could handle quite a bit more cameras than the Pro/SE but according to online tool it doesn’t really. Just a couple extra. Any thoughts? It’s touting double performance which in my mind puts this closer to a UNVR but seems to fall quite a bit short of that scouting to calculator.
@DPCTechnology8 ай бұрын
Yeah, the protect install is a little strange to me, most of my clients that need the horse power would just use an NVR Pro the same as not needing POE, 2.5gbE etc... I think it may be that they just want 2 dives in the chassis design moving forward.. Or their target has tons of WAPs and other devices but just a few cameras.. Dunno..

Unless I'm missing something I thought the POE capabilities has been dropped which came with the original UDMP
@DPCTechnology6 ай бұрын
That is correct, the UDMP and the UDMPMax do not have PoE, the UDMSE does. The thought on the Max is that is for larger installs which will have more PoE switching offboard.

Does the UDM Pro Max support LAG?
@LordSaliss8 ай бұрын
I wish I had more processing power at home. It isn't really about how many network devices I can connect, but more so the CPU needs a better upgrade to allow more WAN IPS throughput with all the other rules and filtering going on. Based on advertised UDM-SE throughput of 3.5gbps and getting a real world 2.5gbps down due to all the security features, I would bet this device and its "5gbps" advertised speed I bet it will also get closer to 3.5-4gbps, which really isn't enough for its price point and means this isn't capable of being used on the newer 5gb, 8gb, and 10gb ISP plans that have been coming out across the US the past year and moving forward. They really should have gone with a newer generation processor than one that is 12 years old, and made this 10gb IPS capable. They should have used at least an A72, or more preferably an A73 CPU core design. The A73 was the most powerful (but still old now) architecture ARM released that is on the exact same instruction architecture as the A57, so would be nearly drop in compatible without having to modify underlying software code. Edit: They could have gone with something like a Mediatek MT8183 CPU, which is used in low end Chromebooks that retail for two hundred and fifty dollars. That would mean hardware wise, Ubiquiti should be able to make a profit on a gateway based around it that sells for anything more than three hundred - three fifty. And since it would likely be sold for eight hundred instead, that would be huge profit for them and a massive jump in performance for the end user (roughly 2x what the UDM Pro Max can do).
