I'd say Civil War Digital Digest is, this is a close second.

Huzzza for Pvt Turning for making the video. For normal duty, I'll typically hand wash mine and dry in the sun once a year. Thanks Pard for sharing these tips and looking forward to seeing you on the field this marching season.

Great video. Dry cleaning is a "dirty word" for me but l washed a depot jacket and my Federal great coat in cold water and used half of the recommended measure of Woolite in the washer. Then and try and do this on a warm day air dry them. Note: The coats did "shrink" a bit, and the heavy deep down stains won't "come out" but the smell will.

Thanks for sharing. When it comes to my wool contract shirts, I soak in woolite, use an antique tin agitator, and a washboard. If you come across an antique washboard it might be worth trying out if the price is right. It might help with scrubbing stains. Then again, I know plenty of reenactors who take a lot of pride in their dirty uniforms.

I have been told that re-washing your uniform with hair conditioner will un-shrink it, at least somewhat.

That is so cool. Wish I'd have had a button board when I was in the service. lol.

I wash my uniform after the season's over in my washing machine on delicate I use borax and Coldwater. I've had the same uniform since I was 15 I am now 32 and still using it. The same goes for my leathers and Brogan's at the end of the season I take a cloth and wipe it down with Vaseline.

Same, wash it with cold and set the washer to gentle, and dry bit on a clothesline.

After the 150th Appomattox NPS living history, my trousers and brogans were covered with Virginia mud. I thought about sending the trousers off to be dry cleaned but we have not had good luck in this area with them pressing in pleats into the trousers. I took the risk, put them in the was by themselves on gentle and let them air dry. Actually worked pretty well. Still had some mud to brush off. The brogans, whoo boy. Talk about a process to get that stuff off.

I’m an officer in Revolutionary War reenacting instead of ACW. As a rev war guy there’s a step by step process to sizing your company so tall guys end up in rear rank etc. Is there a similiar process in ACW? If so a video about it would be great!
@CompanyD2ndUSSS6 жыл бұрын
Great video idea. It's on the list! Yes, in ACW we form up so the taller soldiers end up firing from the rear rank. Tall soldiers start on the 1st sgt and go down. Soldiers fall in in two ranks by height with the only potentially "off size" soldiers being corporals or other file closers like second sgts.

Sam Schmidthuber yes.... as in form company. we line up, right face. if your taller then the man in front of you, you take his place. then you front and count 2s. 1s stay in place. 2s take 1 step back and to the right. thus forming 2 ranks. or somthing like that

Are there any special instructions you need to give when you have your uniform dry cleaned?
@thatguy41063 жыл бұрын
No creases and keep the stains
