A friend of mine once explained to another friend what a Unimog is; "You see, if you plan to reach the top of the himalayan and don't want to go there on foot - you'll take the Unimog!"..., I guess this was the shortest but most significant description of a vecicle's capabilities I've ever heard ! BTW: This latter friend laughed his ass off, when I told him what the name UNIMOG stands for..., he really had no idea at all !

The aproach angle is only about 35 degrees on a U500 depending on tires and weight. Traction is very similar with coil springs and a fairly flexible frame. They are not for extreme offroad, but will go way farther than a 4wd truck when the going gets difficult. Also way more comfortable than a U5000 or most trucks for that matter. The suspended cab makes it a really push and quiet ride.
