He likely means detached. I was humorously pointing what a ridiculous idea that is. Realize how he explains that the handle is angled to aid in cutting in a curve and how the whole handle and blade reinforcement is made of forged iron. It would made for a ridiculously bad weapon. Heavy, unwieldy, hard to aim your strike and with a great chance of injuring yourself more than the enemy you swing it to

telling from how these heavy tools are held to the table with with a simple iron ring, the man must have excellent core strength, the ability to guide the majority of the heavy iron tool through the wood whilst also manipulating the wood to achieve the right cut must need so much strength. almost like holding a pull up mid air for 5-10 seconds. Looking at his hands also, this man is a very skilled wood worker.

A tool and the shape imprinted in the brain of that man, and all the muscle memory of years and years of working. Oh, actually it’s different tools. 8:32 „The Blocker“ or „Stock Knife“; Clog Knife 11:44 „The Hollower“ 14:36 third tool (I use what caught on well, I took a cam(?)) „very much like a spoon knife“ 16:05 back to Stock Knife 18:34 „The Gripper Bit“ (V-blade) and a vanished tool maker (Matt Sears from Pembrokeshire) 22:54 Canadian Maple, Indian Water Buffalo; The standard „English“ way of nailing things vs how Thomas James did it with a piece of thread 25:47 how to get a straight onto a curve; then have the customer try it on: made to measure / benefits of a Village Trade 26:24 a Welsh Slipper was a yard boot; very economic use of materials 27:10 an english clasp - two manufacturers in the North: „John Watts“ and „Horsefields“ 28:00 five or six strands of cotton and two types of heavy wax (- one for winter, one for summer), a needle like a surgeons needle plus Russian Boar‘s Bristles; the old fashioned stitch: ideally it never comes lose (just by friction) and hides the joint, but you can’t fix it. 30:45 brass nails and bent iron 32:37 something I do that others don’t; something else you can do in addition / what they do in Spain; you don’t want the leather proud, especially not for a dancing clog 34:51 Clasps and Buttons 38:06 😊 38:46 Leather straight from the Tannery: Joseph Clayton, Chesterfield; also: traditional Leather Patterns are made from metal / tin(?) 41:12 examples of clogs made for customers Bit of a shame that the original playlist has so few views kzbin.info/aero/PLh90tMebFBJ-tbWMUkZINMZvKFufNj3MA

That is a great video and thanks for posting. My gggg grandfather Thomas Walton (1809-1883) of Allostock, Cheshire, identified himself as a “clogger or shoemaker”, in each census during; 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871 and even 1881. At the time of the 1881 census Thomas would have been 72. Your video has given me a sense of how much skill was involved, and the tools he may have used. Is it likley that he sold these shoes himself, or that he worked in a shop. Don Brown Newcastle Ontario.
