Big boy just came through town. i didn't know it was coming, but i live two streets away from a massive rail yard, and i HEARD it come in. i was SURE that was the sound of a steam locomotive coming in. my 3 year old so (who loves trains) and i chased it for several towns unsuccessfully only to find out it was in town for two days. i took him to see it and the first thing he said was "daddy, thats a steam locomotive!" good boy! when it left I woke up to the sound of its howling whistle for a half an hour. best wakeup call ever...

I remember as a little boy getting on the steam engines with my dad who was an engineer between El Paso and and Toyah , Texas. I even had special RR overalls shirt,cap and even the black arm covers for protection. Years later I followed in his footsteps and worked beside him as a switchman,brakeman and conductor. For the next 33 years I worked from El Paso to Texarkana,Texas on the (Texas and Pacific RR,Missouri pacific) and now the great Union Pacific. Even though I’ve been retired almost 20 years I still live near the the tracks and still listen to the trains go by with pride.

The Big Boy 4014 is definitely a crowd pleaser. This is the largest restored steam locomotive in the world, there will not be anything else like it.

these were incredible machines--quite an engineering marvel--nothing like that is around today
