That was some of the nicest pacing video of the 844 FEF that I've seen. Stable platform and clear imaging, especially of the exhaust from the stack as it's cruising the main line. It's heart-warming to see so many railfans enjoying the show along the route, too. Way to go, Nick Valdez! Keep up the great work.

Nice video. Well shot! It looks to me like the silver detailing on the rods and drivers could use a refresh!
@Tom-Lahaye7 жыл бұрын
It's actualy just a bit of cleaning after this trip to get it shiny again, as it is grease and oil stain that starts to splatter all over the wheels and rods after just a couple of hours work. those are roller bearings but not sealed bearings like the modern variant, that's why you see the crew regreasing the bearings at the end of the video. The loco looks like new from the factory now, and probably better than that even, splendid job from the Cheyenne staff!

What happened to the diesel engine from a previous run that was said to be required now on all steam trains for "dynamic breaking?" How fast was this one running at top end? It's beautiful country, does Amtrak run a train on this line?
@NEAFarmKid40105 жыл бұрын
Basically, the Union Pacific can choose when and where to provide a diesel for any particular run. I personally prefer it if it's a Heritage Diesel (i.e 1943, 1982, 1983, 1988, 1989, 1995, 1996, 6936, or the E-Units), but all the same, if they are going down some long hills, it is better to have the diesel for dynamic braking as it saves some wear on the brake shoes for the cars.
