It's actually real. This is very common is asia. When rice in paddies are first dug, fish are released into the paddies to eliminate rice pests. And the fish feed themselves with the pest, no need to take care of them. Virtually free fish for the farmer with minimal effort. But when the water dries up from a drought, this is the result. They try to burrow themselves under mud and wait for the paddies to fill up again.
