Definitely a brief period in French furniture design, but so intriguing. They seemed to be looking back at their own history, even fairly recent, rather than embracing ancient Greco-Roman themes. Thanks so much for an enlightening look at this amazing piece. I hope you find more pieces of the Charles X troubadour style to share with us.

Yes and perhaps the way the mirror opens is more about evoking a medieval castle's portcullis, but the double reading between that and a guillotine seems unavoidable!

A very interesting and ingenious piece of furniture, although the so-called Charles X is not my cup of tea. In my opinion, the finest furniture was made in the 18th century. Thank you so much for this and all your videos! Regards.

It is a particular style, especially one like this which seems to make up for its bizarreness via being so interesting. I tend to see this style it as the very end of the long 18th century. It is at least more true to an "art" paradigm of design and creation than later purely industrial furniture! Thanks for watching - too bad we didn't do a longer video. This was shot for short format social media.

@@MyersMonroe No worries. It still is a very interesting video. I appreciate the amount of research you put into each video. Regards. Claudio

@@MyersMonroe Charles X is very short period (1824-1830) and I would say it is the last era with mostly artisan-made furniture before increased industrialisation and mass-production in the 1830's and 1840's, which allowed to reach a wider public.
