I am Mexican but I was born around my great-uncles who went to Europe for months by ship. There were no planes in those days, they brought furniture, mostly French, and many other things. Their houses were museums. My mother was the poorest of the family, but she had her things as best she could because my father was an antique dealer, but in a poor way. I also have my museum in my house. Last Saturday I had the grace of God to find a Louis XV Transition in an Estate Sale and I am 90% sure that it is not a copy. But also, on the back of the marble that faces the wall they only filed the edge, very, very little, but even under that filing, you can see the chiseling that broke some pieces without noticing because they were behind. Also, this wood fits with another one just like the one I showed. Also, it has marquetry but with flowers and ornaments. It needs love and a lot of it, it's very old, it's missing the back plate for the key, but I'll see if I can find one that fits. I only paid $80 for that commodes. I loved the voice, it shows elegance, its presentation is very clear.

This is so neat! Found your videos after getting curious about what furniture styles truly are “timeless”
@MyersMonroe14 күн бұрын
Thank you - all pieces on the channel are from the original timeline when furniture was most artistically made (1500-1840 very roughly)… I try to pick pieces which achieve a type of timelessness or universal beauty within their style.

When collecting antiques, discussing pricing of antiques is an important part of education. It would be fantastic if you could live links to places you get your fabrics from. Maybe you could make a separate episode with best sources for the different period fabrics, hardware etc.
@MyersMonroe16 күн бұрын
Yes! It unfortunate when people pay high prices for pieces which aren’t originals or even exceptional to the educated buyer. Are you a professional as well?

Oui - surtout j’aime bien ce qui est assez inédit - cette période arrive à surprendre sans rentrer trop dans le choquant/moche … qui arrive bientôt avec la confusions des styles vers 1840!

Great set of chairs. Substantial but soft in a way. Tropical Empire is a perfect description. I think of the floral furniture of Marie Antoinettes at the Petit Trianon. Not that they resemble each other, but they certainly get away from the predictable style of the time. Wonder if these were commissioned by some elegant lady? Always interesting to hear you speak and share your knowledge. Continued success!

Thank you so much! And yes while they are far from the predictable style of the time. Nevertheless, I think they manage to be quite emblematic of the best.

I acquired the piece on a trade for some upholstery, I’m an upholsterer by trade from a family that has been upholstering for just at 100 years. Like I said it is in frame form no webbing,no guts,not even a pattern and I didn’t have time to work on it and the dealer had other pieces to upholster. It has what looks like a chair back for an arm, the actual back is very low… so you have to sit full length on the piece. I’ve had it for 25 years and is still in frame form lol, one day I will finish it.
@MyersMonroe17 күн бұрын
25 years is but a moment in the life of a piece like that! At least you know how to finish it! It is in good hands.

Not to brag…I have a chaise lounge, it is signed just the frame and can see the stamp signature.
@MyersMonroe17 күн бұрын
Excellent ! It’s funny what is signed at what isn’t - a chaise longue is such an interesting piece they apparently took the trouble to stamp it. I would have preferred to still have the signed side chairs of that different model for the video but oh well.

Three meters tall? What the hell is that? Come on man! Americans don't know what "meters" are. You are a dude from Missouri -- aren't you? You are still one of us -- right? I don't think its nearly as nice as the other things you have presented us for our appreciation. Yes, its a big boy. The heavy poly is distracting. OK I looked it up for you. Three European "meters" is almost 11 feet tall.
