Hello folks, I found an old car jack in my garage and decided to put it to good use. What do you think about this idea?
@vfrflying-machine764110 күн бұрын
Brilliant! This is the best idea I’ve seen for retractable landing gear on a workbench. This could be applied on a large kitchen island that requires mobility. Awesome work and creativity!

I think the video shows a very interesting and innovative way of dealing with the problem of having a mobile desk, table, workbench, etc... For my purpose, casters work well, I installed them underneath the legs so that they do not protrude, but everybody has different requirements and having the possibility shown in the video is a good option.

Never ever wear gloves while operating a bench grinder ,The danger is that the tips of the glove can easerly be dragged into the small gap between the wheel and the stop along with your hand and that tends to be a very nasty accident requiring an ambulance

Years and years ago I bought a kit exactly like that from a local lumber yard called Cramers Lumber in Pennargyl Pa. You could buy just the kit or buy it with the lumber to make work tables and work benches but the lumber in their kits was all scrap Spruce that really hard crap like some of the cheaper Hemlock. They had to make and cut the boards and gave ya instructions with their kit. There was a huge blow up with em when I built my new home I ordered the lumber be Pressure Treated lumber because I was only going to build and use one work bench outside. They delivered the kit with the cheap stuff and I really lost a gasket. Turns out they removed both kits from my bill because I not only bought only bought lumber for my house from em I was a builder and when stuff out that way I always used them 4 lumber. 35 years later I still have both work benches. That is nice touch being able to move the work bench to clean up under it is a really nice touch..

Thank you for the video! WOW you do great work! However; I think you could have saved a lot of time and effort by removing the jack and install a straight rod that will lock into place when pushed by hand Down along the connecting rod and then lift the table by pulling it up with your hand to a position parallel to the leg. With a little lock mechanism there as well. Sorry; it just don't take the power of a screw jack to lift even a heavier table. Great work though!

I have already made a manual lever, but it has its drawbacks, I didn’t like how it works, perhaps I didn’t make the best version of a manual lever, but overall I am completely satisfied with my version with a jack. The price of a Chinese jack in our country is approximately 10-15 dollars.

The wheels are not stable and reliable, my last table was on wheels, this is not practical, in my opinion the table should be on the floor, this is stable
@yestotruth7949 күн бұрын
@@menscraft7985 Really? mate I worked in the building industry for over 40 years & as creative your idea is, it may suit you. I've worked on self assembling scaffolding that goes up & above 20 + metres that use self locking wheels never had an issue with it being unstable & for a simple work bench caster lock wheels is no different. Load your bench up with 20 to 50 kilograms of work tools & see how practical it is trying to go from stationary to mobile. All if not most benches are made stationary for stability the concept of making them mobile are for garage mechanics, auto repairs etc..
@msumungo8 күн бұрын
Landing gear for workbenches :) I have a very heavy workbench (about 500 kilos plus all the tools in and on it). If I just put wheels on it, the weight of the table will press the wheels flat. Retractable "landing gear" would actually work well for my workbench.

@menscraft79859 күн бұрын
I don’t agree, the wheels are not reliable and stable; We haven’t yet come up with a better option than a table right on the floor! I don't like the option with adjustable wheels because the wheels protrude beyond the table.
@Screw_This7 күн бұрын
I like this idea but think it would only be worth it for very heavy loads. There are simpler solutions for light loads. It should be fail-safe, in that once the wheels are fully extended, if the linkage is compromised, the load doesn’t collapse to the floor. This can be accomplished by having the rotation go over-center, before hitting an adequate physical stop, preventing further rotation.
@bloomsaddis89286 күн бұрын
Kick down wheels do exactly the same for probably a lot less money and effort! Clever though!
