At the moment I'm a little bit paranoid to fly such EPO planes without covering them with laminating film. In my experience EPO planes a very fragile, and when you cower them with laminating film they become much more durable. I recommend you to try by your self, maybe even crash land on purpose to feel the difference. It would be great learning experience and you would share this to bigger audience.
@AndrewNewton8 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't want to add more weight to this one but bigger planes would benefit with covering.

Thanks for sharing. So which is good for FPV and UAV, scratchbuilds or kit/pnp like this? Thanks again.
@AndrewNewton8 жыл бұрын
Not this one, too light and slim for extra gear. I'd prefer to scratch build something specifically for FPV but any smooth flying plane or wing with space inside would be good.
@JOeSJNrForReal8 жыл бұрын
OK. Smooth is a factor. Noted that. What if autopilot/UAV, would a scratchbuild up to the task? Have you ever done that?

Hi Love your videos thanks. I have just bought one of these models, came with no instructions!! I have searched but can't find one I wonder if you have a link to the inst. manual? However I am making lots of mods. The servos are not good and I have changed them all for quality 6 gram. Also fitted two wing servos for the aielerons as the snakes seemed so stiff. I also fitted a servo in the fin for the rudder with the wires inside the fuz tube and the elevator is operated by a 1mm carbon rod also inside the tube. To fit the receiver I have cut a slot in the top of the fuz between canopy and wing so it is flush and is not squashed. Streamlined the join between the rear of foam fuz and carbon tube. With a 650mah 2s lipo which is a recommended alternative I have kept the weight down to 300g. Maiden flight very soon!

Excellent Frank. I posted photos of the manual in the RCGroups thread.

Do you think there is any way to keep the wing halves detachable? I am hoping that gluing the wing halves and the center braces could be optional so that the glued in spars coulf be fitted in and out and then bolted down. The goal would be so that with less than an hours work at each end the boom could come off and the wings made into halves for placement inside cor-gated plastic protector shapes I use to travel with planes in my suit case. Thoughts on the reasonableness of this? I understand it would sacrifice rigidity and durability. I currently bring about 5 planes in the space of a tuxedo, but this would be a much more efficient glider than the Kinetic which is more sporty.
@AndrewNewton6 жыл бұрын
Definitely, it has very light loading so the wings could be taped in place. The tail boom is only clamped in place.
@leonardcooper994 жыл бұрын
Andrew. Thanks for this video. The included instructions are so bad, that as a Newby I could never have built it without this help. I noticed in your maiden flight that the prop 'windmilled', as does mine. I have been unable to set the ESC brake on the supplied model. (Remember I'm a Newby). Have you changed the ESC or did you discover the way to do so on the one that came with it. I have also watched your video on ESC setting and none of the 'musical' tones seemed to match, so sadly that hasn't helped. Any ideas?
@AndrewNewton4 жыл бұрын
Search for ESC brake on the RCGroups thread, I think someone did work it out. I changed to a Turing Plush 12A ESC which is easy to program with the ESC card.

Hi there Andrew, i hope you are getting some decent flying time amongst all your very informative reviews. Have you got any pictures of the actual motor mount, for the U-Glider, please? Also can you please tell me what is the inside diameter of the fuse. in mm? I am hoping that I might be able to fit a 27.8 mm can with a thicker shaft. (Turnigy D2822/1450) (41gms)and upgrade the ESC of course. Have you come up with any other alternative motor with a thicker shaft than the supplied one. have you had any more flights than the ones you posted on RCGroups??? I haven't pressed the button yet. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Are you still flying the stock motor??? Go With the Flow Bruce

Hi Andrew, bit of a goofy question but do you consider it possible to get this U-glider under the magic 250g to comply with Transport Canada drone regs by removing the motor, prop, maybe run a smaller Lipo and turn it into a hand launch? Could it be made strong enough for hand or bungee launch? I see you mentioned the standard AUW was 300g. So would want to shed 60g to be safe. Thank you sir.
@AndrewNewton4 жыл бұрын
If you shortened the tail boom as well you might have a chance. Still needs to balance correctly so you cant just remove weight forward of the CG
@tojon4 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewNewton thank you sir, I will keep that in mind, shortening the boom would remove a few grams also. I will probably keep it boxed for now, perhaps Transport Canada may up the lower weight limit a little in the future to run it 'stock' at 300g but I sort of doubt it.

Hello Andrew! Thank you for this useful tutorial ;-) Some questions.... Where is the CG on this glider? I found no information on the instruction sheets. My U-Glider seems to be a little bit nose heavy. Have you experienced that too and have you added some weight at the end of the tail boom? Thank you for your help. Best regards. J-B
@AndrewNewton6 жыл бұрын
Hi JB. I guess it depends on the battery weight. CG should be about 40 to 45mm, but I'll confirm that next time I fly.

@@AndrewNewton Hello Andrew! Thank you for your answer. I have put an Eflite 3S 800 mAh battery that weighs 70 grams into the bird. Hello Andrew! Alas 2 crashes although I had balanced the U-Glider with the Multiplex Center of Gravity gauge ;-( Everything seemed to be OK, at home, but not on the field! After starting the engine and throwing the glider, its nose pointed to the sky (certainly tail heavy), although I had put some extra weight in the nose, and re-balanced the glider. Each time I put more throttle, the nose goes up again.... On the field I tried to compensate with the position of the LiPo battery, in vain! There is a contradiction between the "good" balance in the workshop and what I experienced on the field. I fear a third crash would send the glider into the bin! What is your opinion? Thank you for your support and best regards. J-B

My favourites in the flat shape are the Mobius A (narrower lens) for hatcam, Mobius C (wide lens) for onboard. The Runcam was OK and had a smart phone app but the audio was bad. The Foxeer Legend is great with it's RC operated shutter button but the audio is not as good as the Mobius. I like the SJCAM M20 for tripod mounted. In the GoPro form factor the SJCAM SJ6 is the best.

Another good video Andrew, unfortunately in this case it has provided enough info to not buy this model, that middle servo setup is awful, I prefer a much more direct linkage from servo to control surface so trims are more effective and centering is accurate, this just looks like a headache.
