I'm glad you are feeling a bit better by the way bro. You've made my day with a great reaction to this track and this band. 👍 They were formed in Ireland by Phil Lynott (pron. lie-not) and Brian Downey who were school mates. They had numerous guitarists over the years, but these two played on every Thin Lizzy record. Gary Moore was from Northern Ireland. He is the lead guitarist you can hear on the left channel playing the aggressive and fast solo sections. The other guitarist, Scott Gorham, is from the US. So, it is a strong Irish influence you can hear. The Irish word for rose is pronounced ro-shin and the Irish word for black is pronounced dub. You are right the song is about the Irish folklore, myths and legends. Although some of their songs have this Irish sound/topic e.g "Emerald", they are very diverse in their song writing and style. For example "Dancing in the Moonlight" is more like a pop/rock song and features John Helliwell from Supertramp on saxophone. The Supertramp drummer was Scott Gorham's brother-in-law! I saw Thin Lizzy on their Farewell Tour when I was 17. I also saw one of the last performances of Phil Lynott before he died as a guest on a Gary Moore solo tour in 1985. His solo work is also well worth reacting to btw. Gary was a virtuoso in jazz/rock, blues/rock and hard rock genres but has also passed away now. RIP.

A great track. If you can find it, search for the Phil Lynott tribute concert where this track gets played live by Gary Moore and Scott Gorham, its epic!!

Row-Sheen means Black Rose. Irish people used it to refer to Ireland when oppressed by the English a long time ago. It’s a very Irish riff and melody.

Rosheen duv is pretty much how it's pronounced - black rose. You should check out some of their earlier stuff - Boys are back in town, emerald (similar in feel to black rose), cowboy song, Still in Love with You (live version a marked improvement on recorded version), whiskey in the jar, dancing in the moonlight - to name but a few

Not sure this is the best introduction to Thin Lizzy to be honest. It would have been better to react to Jailbreak or The Boys are Back in Town, or Don't Believe a Word first. Because they were an Irish band, they had a lot of Irish folk influences in their sound, which you noticed in this song.

Why should an introduction to a band necessarily be their singles?
@Markhypnosis1
@Markhypnosis1 4 ай бұрын
@@79BlackRose It's not because it's their singles, but because they more instantly catchy. I realise that's a matter of opinion, but to me this song isn't instant. Which is probably why it wasn't a single and the others I mentioned were.

@@Markhypnosis1 It is a seven minute song, so not suitable as a single. Yes, singles are chosen because they are catchy. He really enjoyed it and said that he was going to listen to it again immediately after his reaction. I often find a band's real gems are found among the deep cuts rather than the catchy "hits". Just my opinion.

I disagree. Most of the time a bands singles are not representative of their real sound. Thin Lizzy Shines with their album songs. Rush is another example, they are known for their singles but when people hear 2112, or any of their other epic songs they are awestruck. Judas priest are like this too.

Recommend Waiting for an alibi, Dancing in the Moonlight, Dear Lord, Got give it Up, Get outta Here, Things ain't working out down on the farm. And from Grand Slam [his band after Lizzy] Sisters of Mercy, Harlem, Military Man, Is this the end. God Bless from Upstate Ny!

Irish band from Dublin. You should check out The Boys Are Back in Town. Not so Irish-sounding, but a great song!
