I count myself lucky to have seen him live and in the UK he was universally loved .... it is very rare someone is universally loved, when even the most miserable person loves him , is extraordinarily rare..... Ali was similar in the UK but in sports. I have never seen anyone close to Freddie since and the same is true of Ali. People who truly burned brightly.

Hard to believe Freddie had a bad throat infection and performed against doctors orders! They had 20 minutes to perform and then the power would get cut. You can see the red light on stage as they stopped their final note. Ultimate professionals!

@@MDreeezy Freddy said the difference between us & other bands is they rehearse until they can do it right. We rehearse until can't do it wrong. & You can see the effect, @ 24:48 you see May realize his guitar is not even turned on & he has to run back to the amp. Freddy is waiting for May's opening guitar note. When he doesn't hear it. He doesn't even turn around to see what's going on, he repeats the chorus by telling the crowd "One More Time" giving May time to correct the issue & come in at the next round. & Nobody knew their was a major screw up, except the band. Pure professionalism.

They said the acoustics onstage were awful and that they couldn't even hear one another. That's where their professionalism comes into play. They had rehearsed the set extensively beforehand to get the timing right. You can see lots of visual cues between them too. A truly remarkable performance with no autocue, earpieces, etc. They were on fire! Freddie was enjoying himself so much. By the end of the set you could tell his voice was beginning to crack (he wasn't supposed to be singing at all). That's when you can hear Roger singing louder and louder to support him. Again, that shows how professional they were. Very tight band.

It wasn’t only Queen who realized they had been sensational. Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Mercury’s trailer after the set. “You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the charismatic star. “Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, because they could connect with an audience.” Their impact was summed up by Geldof. “Queen were absolutely the best band of the day,” the Live Aid organizer said. “They played the best, had the best sound, used their time to the full. They understood the idea exactly, that it was a global jukebox. They just went and smashed one hit after another. It was the perfect stage for Freddie: the whole world.”

All of the proceeds from live aid were donated to feed the people of Africa. This was an all day global event they televised for well over 1.5 billion viewers that started in Australia (Oz for Africa), then broadcast from Wembley and then from Philly which had more than 100k people in attendance. I was at the Philly concert and they broadcast Wembley for us. It was all incredible, and this performance certainly stood out. Phil Collin’s performed in London and also appeared in Philly in the evening which was also unforgettable! Even though it was close to 100 degrees that day, it was truly one of the best days of my life. Not only the music but the spirit of the event and overall caring for others. What a time!

I was 14 when I watched Live Aid at home with my family, it was an intense emotional day because of the cause being so tragic, so difficult to see. The famine was all over the news and the footage was brutal. At school we were making little bracelets and keyrings to sell to raise money, doing sponsored walks and fun runs, anything we could think of to help. But the music was banging and uplifting too so it was a rollercoaster. I’ll never forget when they stopped everything to play some footage of the reason we were all doing this, to Who’s Going To Drive You Home’ by The Cars. Everyone went silent and were in tears. It’s was such a memorable day it’s the only positive about being an old fart, I witnessed Live Aid and grew up with the best music. I grew up listening to Queen and wasn’t surprised when they stole the show here. The Crowd Singing Bohemian Rhapsody at a Green Day gig shows how powerful Queen’s music still is. Loved your reaction.

Don't forget Queen was FOUR people. The only band where every member wrote at least one #1 hit! Two of their biggest hits "Another one bites the dust" and "You're my best friend" were written by bassist John Deacon who never gets mentioned. Freddie was the charismatic front man but they were a force together. Yes, not a sea of cell phones, just listening to REAL music and seeing the band. Radio gaga is precisely about that....The glow of the radio was our teenage friend back then, our night light. "We watched the stars on video for hours and hours, we have no need to use our ears". Radio "stick around cause we might miss you when we get tired of all these visuals", in other words LISTEN to the music, don't just go for the videos that distract from the music and lack of talent..Speaking of a choir, listen to the audio of "Let me Live". Sounds like gospel.

@@firepowder - '39 was an interesting song written and sung by Brian. Being a physicist, it is about time travel (Earth is dying. Astronauts go to find a new world but when they return everyone they knew grew old and died (Einstein's theory of relativity and time). Brighton Rock, Dragon Attack, Fat bottom girls, Hammer to fall, We will rock you. John - "One year of Love" is a beautiful ballad written for the Highlander movie (An immortal falls in love with a woman knowing she will die unlike him). Also "Another one bites the dust", "You're my best friend", "I want to break free", "Need your lovin' tonight", "Friends will be friends, "My life has been saved", "Spread your wings" and the iconic bass riff for"Under Pressure". Roger - "Radio Gaga about how important radio was and people don't listen to music any more and just watch videos. I didn't think him as prolific a writer. They also wrote together in teams.

I'm basically the same age as the members of Queen. This and all the music of the 60s and 70s took me through my teens and twenties. It's imprinted in my brain and my spirit. I can't tell you how thrilled and excited I am to see a new generation exploring it all. Great talent transcends time, forget the 50 years in between, we can all still recognize greatness when we see and hear it. I'm hoping that guys in their teens and twenties now will be inspired to build on it and create new music, just like great rockstars now were inspired when they were younger by the old blues men from the decades before then.

Welcome back ❤I was 15 when Live Aid happened and it was Epic. I was watching Queen with my Dad. I was already a huge Queen fan and When Freddie played the audience a home it was great. No other band did that only Freddie. He was instructed by his doctor not to perform because he had a throat infection (Freddie at 70 % is better than most at a 100%😂) Freddie said Queen would be there because he wasn't going to miss performing for the crowd at Wembly but mostly the 1.8 billion people watching from home. When Queen was done I realized my Dad became a fan that day as did many. There was all the best bands of the time . David Bowie had to take the stage after Queen and reportly said How The F*CK am I to follow that 😂 Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ BTW I suggest the movie Bohemian Rapsody. It's a great movie about Freddie and Queen you might want to check out on your own time ❤ You were talking about festivals. You should react to some of the acts from Sarstock that took place in Toronto in 2003 there were 500,000 crazy Canadians there and there was 15 acts including The Guess Who, Rush AC/DC and the Rolling Stones headlining. But AC/DC Stole the show. I was about 20 rows back and it was a sea of people and we rocked out til 3am from 12 pm.

You could release a greatest hits album of John Deacon songsfor instance. Freddie had a throat infection and doctors advised him not to perform.

I was there that day in 1985 as a 15yr old pop music fan.. I left as a convert to rock music and that's thanks to Freddie and Queen. You have to remember that this was NOT a Queen concert or even a Queen audience, in fact they were a last minute addition to the line up, but for 22 minutes Freddie had close to 73,000 people in the stadium and almost 1.9 billion people world wide eating out of the palm of his hand. Now as a 55yr old woman who has probably been to 300ish live rock concerts, I can honestly say that that 22 minutes right there is without a doubt THE BEST 22 minutes of any live shows I've attended. RIP and Thank You Freddie you Legend 👑👑👑👑

Thanks for acknowledging Roger, John & Brian. Because Freddie is the front man, he gets the majority of the attention, but each member is a musical genius. They are the picture of the saying "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts".

If you want not to be blocked or copyrighted use the Queen official channel to source your material. Another point is queen was a live band,on stage they were electric . 1. Liar,at the Rainbow in London 1974. This very early Queen and you will see they always rocked. Freddie wrote this in the 60's. 2. Now I'm here, Wembley Saturday night concert 1986. This was their last tour after that Freddie was too sick. It such an exciting performance. 3. Want to hear rock shortly before Freddie death? Then try Scandal, written by Brian it explains that it was the press harassing him when he was seperating and planning a divorce also it reflected on how cruel the press was, camping outside his home in the months leading to him having to hide away.
