*Eastside Low Bottoms shit !* Shout out to the OG Tony A ! Great stories from MY generation of music ! Growing up here in South Central, i remember listening to all of those songs. That was a great era for LA rap music. Even back then, i felt that Quik and his crew were something special. I liked how 2nd II None mixed in a lil harmonizing on their debut album. That shit is STILL classic ! Quik did his THANG on that one. I bet Tony A has story upon story ! I'd love to just be sitting there and listening to him having a discussion about shows and studio sessions and experiences with artists and in-depth insight of his eventual dissolution with the industry. Glad to see he's still alive and well. Much success...and again, great interview Mr. Baker ! ✊🏾✊🏾

Awesome stuff ! Thank you Soren . This is what we grew up on. This history is crucial to so many of us . Making those videos you never made is a great idea Tony ! Tony , me being Mexican, you make me proud . Mexicans / Latinos have been in the Hip Hop game since the beginning , same for break dancing . Black rappers wanted to claim rap as a black thing , but that is something that it is not. That is impossible , you are living proof of it not being a black thing only. Hi-C was better with you, than without you. Its that simple . Glad you love music again Tony A ! You need to pass your knowledge on to some young bucks. Your experience and knowledge is still very relevant today in my humble opinion. The rap today is a lot of rapping about nothing. Mumble rappers, No scratching , not enough sampling. Rap needs to be chin checked and go back to its roots. I understand its different now, technology wise. But dam , can't these new mainstream rappers rap about something real and relevant for once ? Rap about something interesting . Its stupid shit these days, bragging about money, and we can't even be sure they can really rap for real . Its so computerized now. I turn off the radio and listen to my shit from the 80's and early 90's . Quik is one my favorite rappers , and his music never gets played on mainstream radio. I get it , the content may be explicit, but when they torture us with crap rap . They should cut the real rappers some slack to play on the radio. Tony A !!! You are a critical , important piece of the complicated puzzle with helping put WestCoast hip hop on the map . Nation wide , world wide . Hold your head up with pride my brother . God Bless Tony. 🎧🎤📀🎼 David , from the WestSide of the USA .

Every clique goes through that but I feel they were never household names bcuz they were on shitty record labels especially Quik and 2nd II None.Quik admitted his first album could've went double or triple platinum and broke all kind of records at the time if they promoted it right.There was hits for days on that album. Rhythmalism should've went at least platinum too and had a video for that Down Down Down song.Quik should've had his own label like Jermaine Dupri and been the So So Def of the West Coast
@UniqueAccessEnt5 жыл бұрын
We don't know about that, Chuck Chilla. DJ Quik & 2nd II None were on Profile Records, the same label Run-DMC was on. They were/are one of the best-selling rap groups of all time. Yes, DJ Quik's LPs could have/should have sold more, but he went platinum on his first LP and gold on the second. Almost no one was doing that in 1991/1992. There's a lot that goes into selling records. Thanks for watching & supporting #TheSorenBakerShow & #UniqueAccess.

Unique Access Ent. I have to respectfully disagree.There were alot of classic albums that went gold & platinum in 91 and 92.Not as many on the West of course but in 91 alone you had Ice Cube: Death Certificate = Platinum Cypress Hill: Self Titled debut = Platinum NWA: Niggaz4Life = Platinum Scarface: Mr Scarface is Back = Gold Ghetto Boys: Forgot the name but it also went Platinum Naughty By Nature: Self Titled debut= Double Platinum LL Cool J: Mama Said Knock You Out= Double Platinum A Tribe Called Quest: Low End Theory= Platinum Public Enemy: Forgot the name but it went Platinum also So yeah there were alot hit records in 91 that blew up and honestly one of the greatest years in hip hop history.There were even more but they didn't sell as much as the ones I listed but still classic

#SorenBaker has a section in his book #TheHistoryOfGangsterRap about the gold & platinum surge in 1991, Chuck Chilla. But of all the rap records released that year, there are several that did not go gold or either platinum. Also, our point is that even fewer people went gold/platinum in 1991 and 1992 like DJ Quik did. That was our point, and that he did it on Profile Records. Thanks for watching #UniqueAccess.

I've been saying for years that Tony A, Quick, Hi-C, Suga Free, 2nd to none and AMG could make a series of compilations or albums independently and make some good $$$. I'm 39 and we miss this music. I'm constantly going to their concerts. West Coast Hip Hop all day everyday!!!!

Thank you Mr. Baker & Tony A. for bringin the "Skanless" backstory to the masses!! I've held on to this classic 💿 album since day 1 back in "91" One of my only regrets in life is that I wish I hadn't thrown away 🚮 the "CD longbox" that the album originally came in. 😬 But I still have the "Leave My Curl Alone" video recorded on 📼 vhs 😂 That track & vid are still dope!! 🔫 🚘🔊🚾 ....BTW I hope you do an interview sometime soon with the "Penthouse Players Clique" or a favorite album review for "Paid The Co$t" I'd really appreciate it. ✌
