Man I remember as a kid I lived in an apartment complex in Long Island called La Bonne Vie. K-solo lived there too at the time. He had two pit bulls named ivory and homicide. I was a young guy and everyone would idolize solo. He rapped, he knew how to box, he was on the come up…. One day I’m at the pool, trying to learn how to swim. I was like 12 lol. He’s there chillin and comes by and kinda coaches me on what I need to be doing to learn. I didn’t have a dad or a mom, I was just moving around from place to place w different family. That day meant the world to me. Nobody could ever tell me nothing about Solo cuz this man took time to teach a young brotha how to do something as basic as swimming. Nothing but love for the OG!

He's partially on point. Sampling won't get you the same writer's credit that playing the actual live instruments will. That being said, some of the greatest productions ever contained samples. Also, we think the "beat maker" is the producer, but actually the person who puts everything together is the producer...because he "produced" the final product. We wouldn't say The Fast And The Furious was produced by Chevrolet just because they used one of their cars in the movie.

Wow Soren! You really have great patience and a calm demeanor. Solo was all over the place and inaccurate in these interviews! 🙁 I have so much to say here but I’ll keep it succinct. I’m the biggest EPMD fan since 1987! For the record, EMPD got hella hits! Headbanger is one of many! Although KSolo may have some valid points involving some of Parrish’s business practices, he’s off base about his business acumen. Truthfully, Parrish Smith was the precursor to Damon Dash/Jay-Z and ROC A Fella records. PMD made the first blueprint for rap music success and spoke it into existence beginning with Strictly Business. Erick Sermon was obviously the main producer of the crew. However, I’ve always questioned why Erick’s sound post EPMD wasn’t as hard or edgy, which lead me to believe that it was a collaborative effort on those EPMD records. Even if it was 80/20 E Double. K Solo is obviously very embittered and it’s a shame because he was a great rapper and contributor to the Hit Squad and legacy of EPMD. Records like I Can’t Hold it Back, Spellbound, Fugitive, & Your Mom’s in my Business, along with his verses on Knick Knack Patty Wack and Headbanger make him a hip hop treasure. God Bless K- Solo! Stay strong 💪🏽

K Solo sounds a little bitter and maybe rightfully so. It's was whole lot of B.S. that went down between Erick & Parrish and their artist got caught up in it. Wish things could've worked out for the whole squad because they had it on lock until the 2 main guys started bumping heads. Oh, yeah I went back to listen to that "I can't hold it back" remix by Parrish and it wasn't as bad as K Solo said it was. It sounded like a beat from the early 90s. But salute to K Solo tho. Most, outspoken and unabashed brothers use the word "Culture" to criticize, shame and combat their own negative experiences with people who look and are received as being the same as them by the world. K Solo knows damn well, so-called Black People, are not monolithic. Even when they share borders, language, religion and very similar histories. We are not one way, negative or positive. @@esseen100 Exactly. You know I almost got into a fight with some older cat when I was 18, because he said I had no right, to front on Dr. Dre because I said he was a great orchestrater, engineer, mixer and visionary but that he didn't make all the beats he's credited for by fans🤔...still don't see the disrespect. That's how it goes though.
@esseen1002 жыл бұрын
@@ricardomigu-elcerroali4779 since I was a young dude, I've been privy to "super producers" in the studio boppin' around with not much more than a pad and pencil while the musicians and engineers create all the music. Now I'm not saying they aren't "producing", but there should be a little more credit shared. 🤣
@ricardomigu-elcerroali47792 жыл бұрын
@@esseen100 LOL don't let Quincy hear that. Studio/Session players do/did a lot. I'm cool with Super Producer being visionaries and maestro of the overall sound or "product". But you know they say Hip Hop Babies is kinda ignorant and I'm a Hip Hop Baby. So I really do wanna know who made the beat, or added a different baseline, I actually fo look at beat making and sampling as arts. I don't wanna rob Noone of their Super Producer/ Show Runner props or cred. I just happen to love beat makers and budding producers too. Damn Verzuz dead now, I'll never see Erick Sermon Vs. Pete Rock.

I used to see K-Solo on the A train all the time when I used to live in Far Rock. He was always with about 7 dudes, blacks, whites & Puerto Rican's. Seemed like cool dudes & just handling their business trying to figure life out at the time just like I was. I always thought he was talented but never quite made it but had his chance.

@KSolo-"This is what I don't like about black culture", my friend you are projecting. You and your former associates don't represent all of black culture, you are all just one "ultra small" part of it respectfully. Therefore "your" associates failed you (Eric, Parrish, & whoever), black culture didn't. We embraced your music and supported it, stop throwing "all" of us under the bus for your life choices, it weakens your brand. Salute King, no shade intended.

I'm a K-Solo fan, but this sounds like a lot of hating. If it wasn't for sampling there would be no hip hop. You clear samples and make agreements with whoever you're sampling from. It's not just always 50% or whatever he's talking about. Rza sampled extensively and he made out ok I would say. Sampling is an art. It's not just copying like he's trying to make it out to be. It's ok if you don't like EPMD, but don't disparage the essence of hip hop. To say Erik Sermon isn't a real producer is just blasphemous

I like the way you took what he said about black American culture being the “color purple”, and used his name to change the subject, sort of You are good! Love K-Solo, but that is nonsense what he said. Everything he said could be applied to every culture. The difference is we have too many who only acknowledge the negative aspects of our culture, and say it’s all of us You have black people living all over the country with different stories. I grew up seeing entrepreneurs, and people about the community, in NYC, and N.C. I also saw, “color purple” shit, so I KNOW we are not gone, not even most of us. A lot are though, but again just like America made the n-word, it created the “Karen’s”, and “rednecks”
