How to be a BETTER goal scorer - striker tips for young players

I’ve played as a defender (rb) from 12-16 years of age. In every year I thought I would never score a goal. I was too scared in front of goal. I thought I had to play as a defender because I was too nervous. Until one day. In the winter our 3rd highscool season started and I had not been fit to play because I had a winter vacation and prior to that I had to go to the hospital for stomach issues and see a psychologist anxiety/depression. Keep in mind I’ve never scored even though I had chances here and there. I’ve always wanted to play as a forward because I felt I could do it as I had the pace and I was always anticipating any mistakes defenders would make. But I kept doubting myself because of my lack of confidence. January comes around and it’s my first match day after the break and the season started early and my team had lost the previous 3 games. I was moved to striker because a different coach saw potential in me. And he told me “hey you kid, can you run fast and pressure as a striker?” I said “sure” . I was extremely nervous. The whole team was gassing me up because they knew how much I wanted to play as aforward and on my first touch I had gotten the ball from deep midfield and ran straight ahead running full sprint passing 2 defenders and scoring. I couldn’t believe it 😂 i scored the first goal in my high-school match and kept scoring consecutively in the next 6 matches. In one of those matches my friend shot at goal and it was slow enough for me to switch the direction last minute to catch the keeper off guard and I scored.

For me it was different our so called coach was a guy who didn't know about football properly except the basic things and he was damn biased he never chose the ones who proved themselves in the training and picked the ones who were shit but sucked up to his ass and later lost the tournament.

Try to play with amateur ballers Because when u are habituated to play with them you can easily recover your confidence... That means when u play against amateur players you can easily score the goals and you feel better . And you will even score against pro teams... And another suggestion is that u try to make your own team and improve your coordination so that you will make less mistakes .. These tips will absolutely work... All the best ☺️

Nah bro (i get how you feel cause i had that to) there is just one thing you have to do when you are struggling with this and that is shoot from places you never thought of and work by doing that (like wrong foot shooting or shooting from long range) like that you will be able to score more goals cause getting EZ goals is much harder nowadays

Football IQ comes from experience. A good midfielder or winger will give you a long pass/cross often landing around the far post. You also have to judge the speed of the ball and anticipate it like a 70% guess.

One very important thing is that when you do happen to accidentaly be at the right place at the right time. Try to work out a logical solution to how and why you scored. Don't just celebrate and forget.

I'm a striker but I struggle to score goals. I play much much better on the wing as I can curl the ball well and have very good close control with lots of speed. But, my team already has wingers so I have to play striker. Can anyone relate?
