Gates opened 1pm, you could hear the crowd (inside) when you were approaching the ground from 2 onwards. Last time I went, it was hard to hear the crowd as you walked up the stairs to the seats. Very sad.

For all our success as a team during the 90's-00's i actually feel more connected with the years '76-'83...that was when football was a great game. I fell in love with United under Tommy Docherty in 1976 & the fans were awesome then. I'm so happy that i lived through this time as a fan

Memories of my youth…. I.m now 68yrs old used to stand in the streford End… when Tommy Doc… was the manager GGMU 👹👹👍👍

Used to queue up at noon to get in the Stretford End like thousands of others. The atmosphere, the fans and the anticipation was like a drug. I started going in 1975 at 14 years of age and went every home and away game for over 20 years. I used to go to all the women in my street when I was at school and offer to go and get their shopping, I went to the supermarket and robbed it and got my money for the match and supporters club bus that way. My mam and dad were like thousands of others and didnt have a spare penny. Weekday matches were a challenge as I missed school that many times they kept me in detention on breaks and dinner when Utd were playing away. I used to take my white skinners, tuxen red air ware, scarf etc and get changed in the toilets at school and give it legs during class change to catch the bus, ffs lol. When I got back sometimes at midnight my school uniform was at home and me old man was waiting with the belt. It did not stop me, in the end he gave up. My lads have been to OT when they can, they are Utd through and through but they will never know what it was like travelling home and away with Man Utd in the 70s and 80s. When I tell them Utd sometimes had more fans in the ground than the home team had they dont believe me. I am 60 now and the memories will never leave me, still love Utd but hate how the working mans game has transformed to what it is now. I still have a token sheet, remember them ? you used to have to collect them to get tickets for the big away games. Great Video brought back loads of memories.

Was our club...I used to go near every game from late 70s to mid 80s...and some more after that to. We used to qué up on sat from near midday outside the Stretford end or paddock...then we would jump over those cages into the Stretford end. Was full of poor lads and fellas from estates all throughout Manchester...gave us who had nowt to feel much pride about made us feel proud was our team. Slowly they priced us out...that's our dam home town team...we never deserted them when they were in 2nd Division..we never deserted them when we won no title for 26 years..we sang louder we believed in our team...one place where every week or two we could feel part of something scream our heads off...gave us the poor something to look forward to...gave us some hope...they took it from us with prices and having to have tickets and seating...as a youngster I got in for about 90p as an adult about £1:90... Thanks for the memories...used to all make sheep bah bah noises coming cross bridge at back of Stretford end so tightly packed we were. Those days long gone never come back cos it was a noise only the poor could make cos to us that meant the world was our world... Poor left with nothing not even allowed to keep team they supported for 100 years. Well sod em I say sod em all.

@@Cricket-qr6lp you will never know what it was like supporting United especially in the 74/75 season, even though they went down to the old 2nd Div the support was great. I always remember a game at Villa in the 70s- the United support was amazing, when they sang "Forever and ever we're follow the boys of Man Utd the Busby Boys" everyone had their scarfs in the air, the whole end was just a mass of red and white, packed in like sardines, the crowd were swaying everywhere and when they sang it it was with real passion, the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end the noise was so great. The away crowd at United is still great but I have never heard or seen passion like that since. I think the terraces did help the atmosphere, nowadays everyone is seated and it's like watching a show

This is one of the most enjoyable yet saddest things I have ever watched on KZbin. As a youngster, start of the season. The first fixtures I would mark down along with our exciting local derby's... blues, irons and that other lot, would be man-u's arrival in town. All jokes aside 'like half of them lived closer to Highbury than we did' wherever they came from they put on an awesome show. No organised choreography like euro ultras who have to be taught to support their team combined with a politcal rhetoric like celtic and others, just a deafening racket and sea of colour that brought that amazing element of excitement 'never' seen at todays matches. And yes every team sang YNWA, usually with your own fans word's ( who the fuck beside the scouse knew the real words anyway lol) havin' a pop at liverpool mostly. Even when united were going down they maintained, as chelsea did a remarkable away support. All main ends could and would look awesome in those days, but as a Arsenal fan forever I acknowledge no one quite did it like man-u.

Wow RicTic, in an era when you get so much b*ll*cks talking about football, that was great to read. I agree with your thoughts - as a United fan btw and completely agree with your 'most enjoyable yet saddest' comment. I NEVER thought I would lose the love of going. but I did. Call me a recidivist but for me the day the terracing died, attending died for me. The authorities got their wish and sanitised the game and broke it for me. How much? Well I'll tell you this. I followoed United from the early 70's. thru the dark days of the 80's, in to the early 90's. And you know what? I wouldn't swop my 20 years for the following trophy-laden ones. No way. Yes, I'd have loved a League title, but that wasn't to be. But following United then was magical, part of my youth and something that all the stanchion-free seating with food and drink outlets galore, in a safe, family-friendly atmosphere can't come even close to rivalling. As regards YNWA, you're spot on too, of course we sang it. I think until the early 80's. Been to Arsenal a few times, loved it as the ground was one of the largest so we got a good allocation. Atmosphere was always fantastic. Great memories but sad, very sad that in today's corporate world, the b*stards killed it for us.

Dead right Matty. 70's and 80's for me though, not old enough to remember 60's. When and why did I stop going? Growing up I was United daft but also (family wise) had an affinity for Rangers. The thought of seeing them two play in the 70's or 80's would have led to the Army being called out! When it finally happened in the late 2000's, a Champions League tie, early rounds, I was no longer a regular but thought I couldn't miss that. The atmosphere was GUARANTEED to be awesome! OMG, one of the very saddest days of my football life. I was towards the Stretford End, about 10 rows back from pitchside, in the North Stand/SAF Stand. Rangers had a restricted allocation but the atmosphere was pathetic. Talk about muted, I was embarrassed and a little ashamed. Vowed there and then NEVER to go to another CL dead rubber and never have. In fact prob been no more than a dozen times since. They ruined it for us, they really did, certainly at home. Believe some of the away games are still ok, but once you get out of the routine you lose contacts and so can't get tickets as always sold out. Sorry to say I enjoy it vastly more in the pub nowadays. M-U, M-U-F, M-U-F-C, OK! Manchester Red.

@USCFlash

TheRedevilsg Nope. Old Trafford is all-seater. The club discourages it, but people have been trying to get "safe standing areas" back in to English football grounds and the club recently supported the ideas. Lots of politics involved though.

TheRedevilsg It has been 26 years since the Hillsborough Disaster and the Taylor Report and i think there have been great advances in crowd control, safety as well as responsibility and monitoring in England, so i think some day soon, we will see some sections allowed to stand again.

My boss was a Liverpool fan and would never travel to Old Trafford, and when Utd played Liverpool at Wembley he only went once and spent the day on the Run. He stood in the Kop and said there were few away teams fans who went into the Kop the main culprits who did he said were Man Utd fans. No Liverpool fans ever went into the Stretford End and announced it, see the video two tribes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJ-5mmmsbdeIhMk
