We wait for him to move in our direction with gifts of financialized gold. Times have been a bit rough as of late out here in East Hempstead. My neighbor Margot McBride Winchester lives in a semi-dilapidated turn-of-the-century mansion not far from the waterfront. But, with those often ignored reports about climate change, the high tidewater comes along to flood her cellar, especially in the springtime. I saw Margot leave her old manse the other morning with her son. I don't know where she was supposed to take him, but word from another neighbor was how she left him on the side of the road, in front of an old farm house. The reason being was that supposedly he was complaining about not receiving his usual yearly Christmas gift of caviar laced body wash and the annual winter trip with Banana Republic Barron to their palatial estate in Grand Cayman. After this abrupt drop off, Margot continued on in her old rusted out '89 Mercedes to the center of East Hempstead to attend her weekly ben wa balls training session with the great great nephew of Andrew Carnegie. After the session, she received her weekly botox injection. Many grand dames and expensive hand bag harlots out here on Long Island cluck and gossip about how Margot has received too much botox and plastic surgery and how her face resembles that of someone who's been stung by a swarm of yellowjackets and wasps. And, unfortunately, I would have to agree with them. Margot looks to be a bit on the rough side with all that's been going on in our wealthy enclaves. I'm not afraid to say that I shed a tear when I hear of her misfortune. And hopefully, the winds of change will blow through our little Long Island hamlet, and number 47 will be the goose that lays the golden egg for Madame Margot McBride Winchester and the many others who are just like her.

And listen, I'm NOT against capitalism, free markets, etc. straight across the board. But to think that human beings (whose DNA is 98.8% identical to a chimpanzee's) can handle this without strong regulations is so naive it's comical. $6 bln a year ... $500 mm a month ... They could afford to pay another $15 million *per day* in additional claims ... and break even.
@sct4040Күн бұрын
They can pay all claims and still make a profit. They are simply so incredibly greedy. I for one, paid into my medical insurance for 33 years and hardly used more than annual checkups.

No, $6 billion a QUARTER, $24 billion year
@ashimaearthskyКүн бұрын
So we are required to buy health coverage (and car insurance) which does not pay when we need it/have a claim. That would be like going grocery shopping, paying for your groceries and can't take the groceries you pay for. Who does this? How long has this been going on? How much money have they made off of us? Who is going to change this?

Capitalist greed. Both Democrat and republican line their pockets with all the money paid by corporations
@sharonmedeiros9819Күн бұрын
Bullshit! Republicans have continually stood in the way of universal healthcare and Democrats have continually tried to pass it. Republicans have stripped all the regulations that were in place to protect us . They were put there by Democrats. Obamacare would have worked much better than it does, but republicans sabotaged it to the point that it does not work the way it was supposed to, just so Democrats wouldn't get the credit. I live in Massachusetts, and my medical coverage works great here, and the reason why is because there are not enough republicans here to screw it up. Our system should be adopted by the whole country, but republicans won't let it be. You are being lied to. Republicans are the problem with this country. They are clueless, they cannot govern and they are screwing everything up.

Oh wait they mske nothing. 6 billion in profit is the insuramce company pocketing the paid dues of health care patients that they have denied treatments to. United health care insurance ending a million lifes a year with just a pen stroke. What a sick twisted joke

NO ONE is unstoppable. We just haven't figured out yet that WE are the ones with all the power, if we join together with a plan, and if everyone cooperates. I watched it happen in New Bedford, Mass with the attempted takeover of Market Basket supermarket. It took a matter of a few weeks to defeat them. We can apply the same strategy to UHC and ALL the other companies who are doing harm to us and to our planet.

I am a retired public school teacher. Two years ago i was a volunteer organizer for CNA with their calcare campaign. I indepently spoke to unions abour the single payer in my tri county area. To my surprise i discovered public employess/teacher unions supported Calcare HOWEVER I observed that trade unions such as plumbers, electricians, and teamsters opposed single payer .This was heartbreaking ,frustrating,and confusing. I got the impression they had the attidue " i got mine and to hell with everybofy else." Can you cover this angle to the story? If my observation is correct,this has to change. Thanks

My wife is 63 on Obamacare and receives 12000 dollars a year on Social Security and spends 3000 dollars a year for Obamacare premium and 8000 dollars a year for deductibles and that leaves her 1000 dollars a year to live on, but Chuck Shumer and Nancy Pelosi love Obamacare

Thank you as always, Mr. Chariton. You are a hero of the people for your honest and relentless journalism. I respect you for your good work and how little you personally profit from it. I remember you mentioned on a stream how little money you took for yourself last year, and I was really surprised by how little it was. It is obvious that you are not in your field for the money, and I really respect how much you sacrifice in order to keep your ethics to not sell out. I plan to donate to you eventually. Thank you to everyone else who has already helped fund your work.
