My dad served along side the Gurkhas during some jungle warfare, he said they would die to know you were safe. they would lie dead still for days on end. The politest of polite, kindest of the kind, bravest of the brave, a Gurkha gave his life saving my dad and from that day on he has been a prominent figure in the Gurkha welfare trust getting them the respect and treatment they deserve.

Never a truer word. The moment they pass selection give them and their family the British passports that they have earned. There are so many residents of the UK that would never sacrifice so much as a penny for this nation yet by default they and their family automatically take advantage of us. Send them back from whence they came and for every man jack of them bring us a Gurkha please.

Absolutely. Watching 14 peaks nothing is impossible. The Nepalese are the toughest of the tough, the humblest of the humble. I'm in awe that they serve the British army. The finest of men and we are extremely lucky to have that association with them

@@camhunter7648 Yes, ALL of their families are more than welcome to come here and live in my area. I would love to have them here and to make them feel wanted members of our community as they should be. Unfortunately we have allowed many many families who absolutely do not share our values on freedom to flourish amongst us. The time has come to reject these people who adhere to an abhorrent ideology, yes, you know the one. Do not buy anything from them i.e. do no business with them. They are nothing more than a parasite clinging on to our economy.

Singapore also has an active contingent of Gurkhas in our police force. In my few rare interactions with them, their attitude, demeanour and professionalism displayed is exemplary. It’s a damned shame that once their contracts are up, they and their family are not given an option for citizenship despite being in Singapore for the most part of their lives. Their children are born, raised and educated in our country & for the most part, assimilated and identify themselves as Singaporeans. It’s heart rending for them when they have to leave. To me this is a great injustice when residency,citizenship and opportunities are given sometimes too freely (in my opinion) to other immigrant nationalities but not to them who most deserve it.
@GUNNER1511
@GUNNER1511 4 жыл бұрын
ayu1978 Absolutely! Totally agree with you. 1000% But it’s all to do with politics and policies. Set by people who don’t appreciate Nor have a clue about their capabilities n true potential. Singapore has never faced serious national security threat. As such, the policy makers and higher ups pay scant attention to them. They are seen as no more than foreign contract workers, who MUST return to their homeland upon expiry of their contract. The fact that they have served with impeccable record for 10/15/20 years is irrelevant. On the flip side of the coin, Permanent Residency at 1stage was offered almost on a silver platter to nationals of countries favoured by the Government. Often full Scholarships offered to promising students. And eventually Permanent Residency ( P.R. ) These are people who have never contributed to Singapore at all in any capacity. A possible reason for such policy, is to attract fresh and promising talent for the future growth of the country, being a small island with a limited population. It’s sad that the Government do not recognise the Gurkhas as deserving enough to offer them the same generous permanent residency scheme. Shame.

@@geronimo7834 Correct sir. one of the most notable was Sergeant Talaiasi Labalaba who was killed in action, while fighting in the battle of Mirbat, Oman in 1972. His story is just inspiring. He had the lower part of his jaw shot away and continued to give suppressing fire, with a 25 pounder howitzer, which he loaded and fired on his own. His parent regiment was the Royal Irish Rangers.

The Gurkha's are the baddest of the bad. I would put a retirement check on a of Squad Gurkha's against a Platoon of S.A.S. , American Rangers and U.S. Navy S.E.A.L.s . The Gurkha's would come out with a smile and not even break a sweat. High Respects to the GURKHA Soldier.

My grandfather fought alongside a regiment of Gurkhas in WWI. A story made the rounds in the trenches. A German and a Gurkha met head on, The German drew his bayonet and swung it, barely missing the Gurkha. "Ha ha", the Gurkha swung while he laughed. The Gurkha quickly drew his kukri and swung it at the German's neck. "Ha Ha", laughed the German laughed...you missed me too!" "No I didn't," laughed the Gurha...wait till you try to turn your head."
