United States Army Green Berets | 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) | 2022
The 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) (10th SFG (A), or 10th Group) is an active duty United States Army Special Forces (SF) Group. The 10th Group is responsible for operations within the EUCOM area of responsibility, as part of Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR). In 2009, as part of a new SOCOM directive, the group is now also responsible for operations within the AFRICOM area of responsibility. The 10th SFG(A) was deployed to Saudi Arabia in 1991 during the First Persian Gulf War, and has been heavily involved in the War on Terrorism, deploying to Georgia, North Africa, Afghanistan, and consistently to Iraq.

Night ops are nothing new. Combat swimmers used to use nav boards, with illuminated compasses and depth gauges. These have been superseded by the CDNM (combat diver navigation module) which incorporates all the necessary functions into a form of head-up display within a divers face mask.

Underwater night vision isn’t really a thing used by the military. Night vision works by magnifying ambient and IR light. At night, underwater, light doesn’t really pass through all that well even at 10-15m which is a typical depth. Thus night vision doesn’t really work underwater, and even if it did using a sort of goggles would risk getting compromising by the faint digital glow which could be seen from the surface. If you notice, underwater military vehicles like Submarines and the SEAL Delivery Vehicle have no windows, and it’s for a reason. Swimmers rely on navigation instruments and their fin strokes to get them from point A to B

It all started with re-breathers, post dive chambers, forced air.... SCUBA came later. Drägerwerk developed its first submarine rebreather as early as 1907, and Bernhard and Johann Heinrich Dräger introduced the first portable diving apparatus in 1912. It was an important innovation, though at first glance there was little to distinguish it from conventional helmet diving equipment. Swimming in 5ft of water without being seen is hard than one might think.

Hello Eddie I was assigned to the 1st. Batt. of the 10th SFG then out of FT. Devens Massachusetts in early 1980, as a support soldier. It's true those "Snake Eaters" as we called them. were well trained. Many were Q- qualified ( except for support soldiers ) most of the snake eaters were decent but we as support members of that same battalion were looked down upon as those bleeping snake eaters thought they were the Best! Every time I turned around they were breaking safety rules on one issue or another. Back then my MOS was a 43-E2P. That was an Airborne paratrooper but that was as close as "I" wanted to be associated with snake eaters. While they're at FT. Devens, I've never seen such a bunch of crazed Red Necks in my life! Luckily for myself, I was only stationed there for 16 months as prior to this assignment I came from Italy, as I was assigned to the 1/509th Airborne Inf. and transferred to Devens with 6 years active duty under my belt as a Sgt. E-5 at the time. Honestly, I'll never forget the friends I've made and the countries I've traveled to and I still consider that duty stationed to be one of the best in Europe for American paratroopers. As for my 16-month tenure at that hole in that ground known as Ft. Devens, it's now pretty much a "Ghost Town" That battalion of snake eaters if I remember correctly left and packed up for Ft. Carson Colorado, I believe in 85, or 86? Good God damn riddens!

@@dshepherd107 Rangers are a highly trained infantry unit that does fall under Special Operation Command. Green Berets are called Special Forces. Both units are tier 2 and play different rolls. 80% of Deltaforce Operators have been a Ranger or a Green Beret or both at one point. Delta is Tier 1 and has huge ties with the British SAS because our Deltaforce was molded almost identical to the SAS selection. People often say Special Forces because they don't know. Special Forces is just another name for the Green Berets. All Tier 1 and Tier 2 units are Special Operations. Tier 1 units are the hardest to get in and pass. The Army will pull from any branch to recruit to Deltaforce but you must be seasoned and been in service a while. SEAL Team 6 AKA Devgru is the only Tier 1 SEAL team and you must be a SEAL for 5 years with deployments if you get a shot at Devgru. Both Deltaforce and Devgru have a alarming fail rate.

@@5FIVE6CHRIS We were separate from the SEALS. I think we all used the same compression chamber in training. We did train and got the tour of a submarine, how to sink one. Not sure their crew was happy about our visit. Only time I used the training was in Vietnam, in Chau Doc at B-42. We were on the Bassac River. Two water taxis collided. One had fuel drums tied down on deck. The collision broke them free and the drums rolled to one side capsizing the boat. Not sure why, but both boats sank. The Sergeant Major and I were the only ones in camp with Scuba training. Our HQ in Can Tho sent down two rigs for us. We geared up and followed a cable down to one of the boats, diving for bodies at this point. The visibility went from tea colored to BLACK in 6 feet. The Sergeant Major stopped descending when the lights went out. I got down to the boat, found no bodies and resurfaced. By now I had turned off using my eyes. So much so, that I didn't realize I could see until I almost broke surface. I did get a surprise as I reached the boat. Pitch black and a hand grabbed me. It was a Vietnamese diver breathing from a compressed air hose from a boat on the surface. Brave soul.

Okay guys I really do love the dive video. It is really cool and I like how all the SOF divers dive in a group with all the safety ropes and the water vessels being close by. That shows that they are putting safety first which is one of my biggest concerns with diving. I also feel like this video is motivating me to do the following: if / when I go to the Dekalb magistrate court some time this week and if I can get some sort of satisfiable agreement with me and Strokers ( specifically Iyoki ) then I will definitely agree to make a formal statement about all of the previous reports and text messages that I have sent the Gwinnett Police. I even think that I will call them now just to see how to go about making the statement.

Being tied together is mandatory because real amphibious operations always occur at nightime, when the water is black like ink and you literally cannot see your hand in front of your face. That and the currents (combat divers go underwater at least 1.5 miles before the shore, 30 feet deep) and finally only the point-man has a (lightly) illuminated compass/depth gauge. So you really need to make sure you stay with your team
