Also, the American tanks were largely inferior to the German armor and it took literally 5 American tanks to take out one German...but, American production lines cranked out tanks by the thousands. It's simple: the Russians were going for "plausible deniability" and when that didn't work, they immediately sold out the attacking force in an effort to keep themselves credible. If they had admitted that Russians were amongst the forces and that Russia had ordered the attack, that would have been an act of aggression that might have triggered a war between Russia and the US. Now flash forward to the Ukraine war and you see that Russia, and more specific Putin, is still trying to use these same tricks. His forces "only went in on a peacekeeping mission to protect the Russians in the three so-called autonomous republics. Questions about what Russian troops were doing around Kiev then were met with deafening silence. And even now, after more than a year, Russia/Putin still won't admit their act of aggression and blame everyone but themselves. Which is kind of the standard abuser's defence: "I don't want to beat you, but you force me to beat you"

In fact since 2014 the entire army of Ukraine, despite NATO training and massive and constant help from major Western powers, has failed to drive out the small contingent of Russian troops in Donbas and Crimea. A pathetic military performance. It reminds me of the alleged number 1 army in the world, the most technological ever, which after twenty years of war and billions spent in vain, was put to flight by a gang of ragamuffin Taliban armed only with rusty rifles and a few pickups with machine guns. Which is why Mao did not send any regular troops into Vietnam because he was afraid they would get mauled by the Americans again. He trained Vietnamese troops in Vietnam and sent a few Chinese officers to lead some of the Vietnamese assaults. Many of them were drugged up on powdered heroine and were killed by Americans. I know a buddy that killed one personally and had to cut him in half with a BAR to get him to go down. Found a jar of heroine powder in his knapsack. Chinese officer had a big red star tattooed on his bicep. China has never fought a modern war with modern weapons against a modern foe that practices REAL war every generation. China would get its ass kicked. It knows this and will NEVER invade Taiwan. China is playing the long game. It's corrupt and it's ruthless but it's not suicidilly stupid. They will never invade Taiwan or take over the American economy , isn't going to happen.

I know it's hard not to puff our chests out a bit in situations like this, we're only human. However, letting that feeling pass and studying what can be learned is the useful thing. The ability to deliver a proportional response is a good thing at times, but in other situations, a disproportionate response serves the greater good (as it did in this case). Politicians aside, I think the Generals are a lot more intelligent and know their business far better than is portrayed to the public. Hell, russian airforce couldn't even handle Ukraine, even though Ukraine airforce and anti-air defences were almost non-existent at the start of the war. Sure Ukraine have a few Patriots, NASAMS and other modern western-made anti-air equipment now, but in small numbers. Makes me wonder how will situation change when F-16s will arrive to Ukraine...
