The life of a cadet was lived at a slower pace back then. People had time to settle in and absorb information, make friends and change their values and attitudes to that of the organisation, resulting in a satisfying life long career. The rate of change today is a huge challenge, and those that don't fit in, get turfed out pretty quickly.
