Had to come back to this after learning that they're going to reef her pretty soon. She deserved better 😢 Unbelievable that we can save and harbor a ship that isn't even ours, but leave OUR OWN to rot and decay.

Even tho this is from some 70 years ago....the United States still looks magnificently modern and contemporary....a truly beautiful ship !!!

If I was a billionaire...I would restore this beautiful ship myself with modern amenities and technology!!!

Instantly famous as soon as she entered Southampton. That is respect right there.

She was modern, she was hella fast, she was built for a purpose she was never (thank God!) used for. And now, she rots...fracking shame. Ny to Europe '62.

I sailed first class Southampton to NY on this in 1959 as a young teenager. Very fancy. We had a button in our cabin we used to order food 24 hours/day.

Built in the US. Registered in the US. American crew. Those days are long-gone, never to return. Even that "icon of America", Disney, has it's ships built off-shore. I doubt that much of the crew is American.

It's neat how the paint washed off because she was going so fast.

Mark, I completely understand. Always keep a good thought.
Anyone can attach a bow and a stern to a shoe box! That's the cruise ships of today. Floating Malls packed with thousands. Ugh!

"Blue Riband first try". There wasn't much of a battle. The power compared to the displacement (weight) of this ship talked its own language. The "big U" was built in association with the navy to be a fast troup transport ship if needed, the Blue Riband came in bargain. And now this icon is rusting away. Shame of you, America!

This ship and other Ocean liners ARE BEAUTIFUL UNLIKE THOSE CRUISE SHIPS THAT ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO UGLY!
@cats0182 Жыл бұрын
Ocean liners were built for transporting people from point "A" to point "B". They weren't built to be the predecessors of the "Love Boat".

I assume it’s like when you got a new car and they told you not to drive above a certain speed for a certain amount of miles. It had to do with breaking in the engine. The Capt. wasn’t suppose to push it the first crossing and did anyway from my understanding.

manning made an unprofessional pass of the QE1 going her scheduled 28kn after leaving leharve. manning played cowboy skipper to show off. a true unprofessional maneuver, a clise passing with no horn salute or acknowledgement. he was known to be arrogant to us lines management.
