LPD Number 17 eh and there’s more!? Makes you question which of our two nations has got it right. Very proud of our two nonetheless, having supported Albion and Bulwark both during and since build.

This is the 1st of the class, there are 11 in total, with 2 modified designs in build before another class (LX(R)) starts construction.

The USA is 5.5 times the size in population and economy of the UK. We do our bit and have always punched way above our weight.

Thanks for the economics lesson 1chish, but I think the UK could have afforded more than two LPDs. I agree that we punch above our weight, but the cost of that is the crews of our lean manned ships are continuously run ragged, particularly the LPDs - I witnessed this on many occasions when working on them.

@@davepedantic It wasn't a lesson mate it was just showing the comparison. That being that we have 2 LPDs but that equates to 11 in US terms. Like we have two carriers = 11 in US terms (as they have). Plus we have 3 x Bay Class LSD amphibious warfare vessels and other ships. So its not just the two Albion Class.

Sorry to labour the point, but my understanding is that the US plan to build a total complement of 26 of the LPD-17 class.

Absolutely nothing like QE. This is an amphibious transport dock less than half the size of the QE which is an aircraft carrier.

About time it can get underway and stay underway under its own power. I served on this ship after its maiden voyage and it was a piece of shit to say the least
